Hi,

Just wanted to post an update on my 6 yr old sons progress on Nicotine patches.

He is up

to one patch a day and has been for over a fortnight. We have been using the

patches for

a month on Saturday.

So far we have seen a lot of improvements!! and these are in all areas of his

development.

His school (he attends a mainstream school 3 afternoons a week) have noticed a

change in

him and they are unaware of the patches, and his team of home tutors are seeing

big

improvements across the board. My son (pretty much non verbal) is vocalising

better and

has been more spontaneous with his words, mands and tacts. His self help skills

have

improved (eg has taken himself to the toilet several times in the last week and

he doesn't

normally do this) He is using more words in general and showing a lot more

concentration

(eg. in his last session at school they decided the whole school were going to

watch a dvd

in the hall - and he sat through nearly an hour and half of it watching!!!!!) He

is making us

more aware of his wants (he is now saying no and yes which he wasn't before and

doing

little things like he spontaneously requested a " different " pen at school when

given a

green one, then he picked up a blue pen! he is seems more actively involved in

things too,

his headmistress commented on how much he seemed to enjoy the pantomime they had

at the school last week and how engaged in it he was too!!

His bowel movements and consistency etc, seem to have improved in the last week

also,

and his stomach is looking really normal - instead of distended! We have been on

the SCD

diet for over a year and we still see bloating.

Anyway - I am very pleased so far...they are little moves, but in the right

direction.....

On the negative side, we have seen a decline in sleep, but more so in him going

off to

sleep than anything else..He is seeming to stay asleep ok once he is asleep, and

even

sleeping in later! but this is probably because he is taking so much longer to

get off!!
