A while back someone posted the link to a study about unsafe levels of

something related to jet fuel in those bags of organic washed greens. As i

recall it was under a totally unrelated subject head. Now some people i know

are interested in the info. Anyone remember the thread? Or have the link

again? many thanks,

Elaine

Elaine, the main site has much info and news concerning organics:

http://www.organicconsumers.org/

Here's the link to the specific article on contaminated lettuce:

http://www.organicconsumers.org/toxic/lettuce042903.cfm

" Hence, if those results are found to be applicable to winter lettuce grown

with Colorado River water, which contained between three and ten parts per

billion of perchlorate, the perchlorate concentration in the edible leaves

could range as high as 90 ppb --- fairly close to the 72 ppb average

perchlorate level that the Environmental Working Group found in its

supermarket survey. The group says that level, for lettuce consumers, is

four times the EPA's recommended daily dose for perchlorate. "
