Guest guest
Forgive me for massively trimming your post. > I posted a while ago about a friend of mine who was continually menstruating for a number of years. I had this same problem for a couple years. My body kept cycling all the time so I was having periods every time I turned around. Sometimes the flow would just be terribly violent and incapacitating (I have a not-so-fun day at the zoo story). I didn't want to be on birth control, though, as I had high cholesterol (incresed risk of blood clots, etc). So, this constant muenstrating was a VERY expensive problem, what with visits to the gynecologist and tests and having to constantly be using pads and tampons. And before this started I was very regular, too. 32-day cycle every time. Heavy the first couple days and tapering off for the remaning 4 days. I'm back to normalcy now. It kind of came to a head and my body made it clear what was going on. A wheat intolerance came to the forefront as well as allergies to corn, soy, peanut, and almond. I'd never had problems with food before but my dad " developed " food allergies and sensitivity later in life so I thought those same problems might be in my future (sooner than later, I found... I'm 25). I say " developed " because they may always have been present but the symptoms maybe just became unmistakable to one or both of us. We never had food allergy tests done on us earlier in life. I'd had my environmental allergies tested a few times before, it was only recently that I had food allergy tests done. So, I stopped eating the foods I'm allergic to and sensitive to and my period reverted back to normal right away. Woo! What a relief, let me tell you! Still, never would I have thought that allergy/intolerance would cause such a thing. Nothing else changed in my routine, so I know it was the absence of one or all of those foods that " cured " me. I'm still overweight by about 60 pounds, but I've lost 30 of what my high weight was in a span of 3 months with virtually no exercise, just from the diet changes. I feel immensely better and am now beginning the learning process about REALLY treating my body better, just because I'm so stoked about feeling healthier and happier. I started exercising about 3 weeks ago and have not lost much more than a handful of pounds, but I am gaining back all that muscle I let atrophy after highschool. So, encouraging your friend to go to an allergy doctor would be my advice. Maybe she has an intolerance, which won't show up on the test, but it's worth knowing. My intolerance wasn't obvious to me for what it was at first. I just felt hungry like 15 min after eating pasta or something similar, and my stools would be loose and I'd get bloaty and gassy. Then the allergies really hit me. Facial edema (swelling) from corn and mild anaphylaxis from peanut (dangerous, though). Anyhoo, she's welcome to contact me as well. I don't bite. ~~Carolyn
