Guest guest
oh boy - this is hard. i started learning about NN when i was pregnant, so my comparison will be pretty lame, but here goes: typical day before pregnancy/NN: bowl of cocoa pebbles (gak!) with crap milk. possibly two. bowl of fresh fruit salad with stupid amounts of whipped cream from a can for lunch. meat and starch for dinner, and likely a salad. snacks - toast with butter. at least it was sourdough... [ok guys. stop snickering. i mean it!] typical day now that i have a brain - i'll use yesterday as an example: breakfast: large kefir smoothie: 1.5c kefir, an egg yolk, some coconut cream, and cinnamon. snack: coconut " candy " a la that recipe i sent around and some cheese. lunch: (i was hungry!) a half-pound of happy ground beef, cheese, and a pile of lacto-fermented veggies dinner: (ahem) the OTHER half-pound of happy ground beef, cheese, and another pile of lacto-fermented veggies throughout the day: a half gallon of raw happy milk yesterday was pretty unoriginal, i guess, but that's what i was hungry for. today i had the same breakfast and snack, but a happy pork chop and yet another pile of lacto-fermented veggies for lunch and beef ribs and kale and cabbage for dinner, and a bottle of raw happy milk. i probably ate more than that even when amber was younger (she's a year old now and does eat some food). for your relative calculations, i'm 6' tall and weighed a healthy-looking 179 before i got pregnant. right now i'm still 6' tall and weigh 188. -katja At 07:06 PM 4/4/2004, you wrote: >Hi all b/f mums, > >I;ve got a client who's b/f'ing and who isn;t eating any near >enough. Guest guest
I believe for nursing you need around 2200 calories. You can do a web search and find more information. I just always try to have healthy snacks and eat when I'm hungry. Nursing moms don't always have the time to spend in the kitchen...so it was important for me to have food I could just grab out of the fridge or make within a few minutes for the days when the baby was teething, growth spurt or just needed more care. Which was most days for over a year Kayte Wanted: advice from breastfeeding mums about food qty Hi all b/f mums, I;ve got a client who's b/f'ing and who isn;t eating any near enough. Guest guest
It depends on how old the baby is and how often they are feeding. I eat about what most average persons eat, but my daughter is 2 and a half. She nurses 10 to 12 times a day (I know she's a nur nur aholic). In the early days I ate constantly. I was also always thirsty and drank vast amounts of waters. Cheese and boiled eggs are great quicky things to eat. I ate enough for two people and still dropped forty pounds in the first 6 weeks. A b/f mom should eat as much as a working man. In other words, whenever the craving hits, you eat, as long as it is good stuff (ie. not chips and chocolate bars). After b/f three kids, I can say that I ate as much as my husband did who worked outside. The tough part came when I quit b/f and had to shift down in my food intake.
