Guest guest
My VCO comes in plastic and the instructions say it's safe for longterm use this way as long as the oil is solid. Glad to find someone else with solid oil any advise on how to use it? I thought I could add it to kefir-smoothies, but that wasn't the best idea. Solid VCO in a smoothie results in little pieces of VCO in a smoothie and warmed liquid VCO becomes solid in little droplets in the smoothie, both not very good I scratch out some VCO and put it in a glass jar, which I put in warm water, to have liquid VCO. Guest guest
>> eat it with a spoon, or make coconut " candies " ...at first i didn't really like eating it plain, and i still don't *love* it, but it's not bad.... I just tried someone else's suggestion of mixing it with peanut butter and a little honey for a quick-fix way to down some. I've been reading Bruce Fife's book Eat Fat Look Thin, and all the testimonials about eating 3 tsp at once for a real energy boost. So, I mixed about 3 tsp CO, about 4 tsp peanut butter, and a little raw honey. Quite palatable! Then I waited for the energy boost. Nothing. Well, I'm back on a " get in shape " kick so about a half hour after eating it I got the kids together for a neighborhood walk, which we haven't done in probably 3 months. Last time we did it, about 1/3 of the way around my lower back and legs were killing me, I thought I was going to die. This time, about halfway around I noticed I was feeling pretty good, so we added an extra block. By the time we turned back down our street, I was *just* starting to feel it in my back and legs, and now that I have cooled off ... I'm NOT exhausted! Wow, there must be something to this stuff! Because this stuff, which is from Garden of Life, tastes like soap. It has a really nasty aftertaste. Is it me, or the GOL? I can manage one of katja's candies but not much more. Well, I just got my first stuff from Tropical Traditions, and I used the expeller-pressed (doesn't taste or smell like coconut). I can't compare, but don't think it's at all soapy. ~ Carma ~ mom to Noa 8.5 yog ~ Colter 6 yob ~ r 2.5 yob ~ Mica 8 mog ~ wife 18.5 yrs to Russ God has given you all you need to train and educate your children at home - it's in real books and real life. ~ Clay son

Guest guest
thanks that sounds like something I could do! I probably will try making the treats as well. It smells very nice, but licking it off the spoon just isn't for me. And I think for making scrambled eggs, I better use the CO that doesn't smell CU Anja > I just tried someone else's suggestion of mixing it with peanut butter and a little honey for a quick-fix way to down some. Guest guest
Does it come in jars like peanut butter does? (Peanut butter is by far not as common as a spread here than it is in the US, although it tastes nice. But it does mean a drive out to Walmart or Marktkauf to get some...I expect) CU Anja I tried it yesterday with almond butter instead of peanut butter, > which made it even MORE palatable. > ~ Fern
Guest guest
i tried GOL at a friend's home and also thought it was soapy. i don't like any other than coconut oil-online. Guest guest
Right, almond butter is often sold close to where the peanut butter is, in jars. I got mine at the local health food store. Or, you can grind your own almonds to make it if you have the proper equipment. ~ Fern ----- Original Message ----- From: " Anja " > Does it come in jars like peanut butter does? Regular groceries don't carry other than Nutella hazelnut butter with chocolate. Not in any health food stores or United warehouse buying club catalog. Used to be able to get it at Bread & Circus. Guest guest
Hi Anja. Too bad about the sugar in the peanut butter and hazelnutbutter. I bet the hazelnutbutter would taste wonderful with the VCO and a bit of honey, though. Hope you're able to find some without sugar. I would imagine any nut better would work great. ~ Fern ----- Original Message ----- From: " Anja " > I got peanut butter (they only had one brand) and hazelnutbutter. Guest guest
Wanita, don't be jealous, it's pretty much like Nutella just without the chocolate. Sugar is the 2nd listed ingredient, just like with the peanut butter I got. The same company produces bad tasting " Nutella " . Well, had to try it CU Anja > > I got peanut butter (they only had one brand) and hazelnutbutter. But > > both were with sugar added That was at Walmart. Guest guest
Fern, I bought both anyways. The hazelnutbutter is very similar to Nutella, just without the chocolate taste. But after the praise of almond butter, I couldn't resist By now, I have only eaten the hnb on bread. I'll have my chance to use a handheld blender on Sunday and won't have the chance to get to Marktkauf, 'till then (shops are only open 'till 8 p.m. (not the hfs, those aren't open as long) and not today, because it's a holiday ect.). So, I'll try that peanut butter on Sunday will let you all know! Stolen idea (from Angie from the coconut-info-group): " I toast some low carb bread and spread it on like butter then drizzle some honey on top. Delicious! " Well, I find that even on untoasted bread, the VCO is surprisingly easy spreadable. But the rest of the idea sounds good. *For me*, the VCO just lacks some sweetness. It smells sweet but doesn't taste sweet and that doesn't go well together. CU Anja > Hi Anja. Too bad about the sugar in the peanut butter and hazelnutbutter.
