It's very similar here (Germany), when you've been to the UK for more

than 6 months, you won't be allowed to give blood. There are a lot of

other reasons, not to be allowed, too. Usually, if I don't know the

word, I assume I haven't had it :)

I've been rejected because of low red blood cells (they check that

before donating and it's an indicator for iron) some times. The low

border is 10,5 and last time I went, I had 14,1!!! :) They hand out a

list of what to eat to reach the 10,5, it's liver and beans that I

remember.

restricts anyone who has lived in Europe over 6 months because of the

mad cow scare. But now that it has been found in North America - US

and Canada - I wonder if that means no one can donate blood anymore?

Funny thing, I didn't even eat beef in Europe, yet thousands that only

visit, ate beef to their heart's content, come back and give blood.

Stupid rule!
