They are sold as pet food, but what you do with them once you buy them, is

up to you.

OK, I bought some broilers this year and darn it I'm going

to try chicken feet. But ... I've been told you need to " peel "

them. How does one peel chicken feet?

I clip them off with my dogs' toenail clipper.

He, he. Gross. I chopped the head off of a dead chicken the other day. I

just leave the toenail on and sometimes they fall off after cooking. They

come out when I strain the broth at the end. I don't peel the feet.

Perhaps that is only for people who eat the feet by themselves such as

asians do?

Ordered some organic chicken feet in for making stock - they sent

7lbs - $13 worth - so damn, that stock better be good!!

Thanks Bruce, for the tip on getting the skin off, cos otherwise I

would have been a bit freaked out.

Has anyone actually chewed on the feet yet? I know i'm being a baby,

but i just couldn't bring myself to gnaw on something that looks

like a mummified babies hand :-(

I gave one to the cat and she seemed to have fun with it though

Yes, sometimes I feel like I'm a part of the Adam's family when I see the

little toes peeking out of the broth!

Re: Chicken feet

My kids saw the feet while the stock was simmering and had a good laugh!

==>I wouldn't worry about whether they are organic or not - they will

still make gelatin and be healthy for you!

> feet broths A LOT when I was young. We also ate pork feet broth

cold (they would stew pork feet for 10 or so hours until the feet

become totally soft, take the 'meat' off, and throw it back into the

stew, then cool off). Its a very well-known dish in Russia- holodez.

Yumm! Oh, and my father's relatives would make a hot broth from lamb

I think. It was called " hash " . Unfortunately very few of my american-

> yummy, too!

==>It's wonderful that our grandparents knew about such good foods,

but sad that their good eating habits did not filter down through the

generations. I love pickled pigs feet, but haven't been able to buy

it for a few years - too bad. I made pig's feet last weekend and I'm

still drinking the broth. It is totally jelled after getting cold.
