Coconut oil online for example can't call their's organic because of the ine's strict organic laws which don't allow livestock dung. As it comes from small growers who raise cattle too its not worth it to put the restriction to be able to attach the organic name. Carageenan is not good. Dedy posted links here while back. Wheather that is everybody, don't know. Carageenan and gums slow my digestion. Can tell whatever it was in is sitting in my stomach. Guest guest
Actually it's called Natural Value and i emailed the company to ask them. It's canned in Thailand so it's possible they don't know or are misinformed. Elaine

Guest guest
I used to purchase Natural Value and there were no gums listed on the label. However recently I noticed this brand has added " less than 1% carrageenan " to the list of ingredients. The only pure coconut cream I have found is made by thai and it can only be purchased here in Bend OR,in tiny cans at a premium price. It is called Thai Kitchen whole coconut milk. I like this one the bes of all of the brands. In the WAP shopping guide they list this Thai brand and Kame whole coconut milk. Has anyone found the Kame brand? Carrageenan moss tea is listed in the recipes of Nourhishing Traditions. Perhaps the processing of the carregeean makes it unfit for human consumption? Does anyone know if that is true? The carregeenan does not taste like the addition of other gums. In fact I cannot taste it at all in the Natural Value brand. TIA, Sheila > > In a message dated 4/21/04 5:21:07 PM, itchyink@s... writes: > > > > Actually it's called Natural Value and i emailed the company to ask them. > > It's canned in Thailand so it's possible they don't know or are misinformed. > > Elaine > > > > > > > > Elaine, > That one has gums I think. Guest guest
I used to buy the pure coconut milk from Thai Kitchen in the tiny cans, but they've added a gum to the list of ingredients recently. Guest guest
I remember taking guar gum supplements back in my diet days to fill me up so i wouldn't be hungry. Haven't read the label recently knowing that was the only size that was pure. Pure is replaced with premium on front of can. If I'd read that I've known. That's disgusting! Many people appealed to Thai Kitchen on the coconut list not to add guar gum to the larger cans year or so ago. The larger cans with guar gum slow my digestion. Haven't noticed that with the 5.5 oz. cans even though I at least have been eating it with gum for the last 3 days. Have noticed lately it seems to not be doing what it used to for me. My skin isn't as soft as it was and it doesn't give me the energy it used to. Gum gums up the coconut process. What to do now? Did find the other Sally recommends once. Taste and thickness was no where near Thai Kitchen small can. Wanita
Guest guest
Today at the health food store I noticed there are two different Natual Value cans of coconut milk. One reads ORGANIC and it contians the carregeean, the other simply reads coconut milk and only contains coconut milk and water. No preservatives! Wonderful and quite amazing. It may be possible to order this coconut milk by the case through a local health food store. Guest guest
Used to order Thai Kitchen small cans by the case from from United co-op buying club. Can't find in catalog anymore. Glad I didn't buy more than a few cans not knowing they added gum. Google search found Natural Value available online http://www.shopnatural.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc Looks like their aseptic is " only " coconut milk. Only organic cans here. All have carrageenan. Carrageenan and gums both affect me the same. Thanks! Wanita > Today at the health food store I noticed there are two different > Natual Value cans of coconut milk. So, how about lactose? Is it harmful per se, because it happens to bother a whole lot of people? Guest guest
I just received a reply from Natural Value regarding guar gum. They said their organic coconut milk has carageenan and their unorganic milk has nothing added (which is why it's a big clump at the top of the can). I think someone said this already but thought i'd give you the official reply from the company. How are non-organic coconut trees treated? Do they have an intense pesticide or fungicide load? Isn't carageenan ok? Elaine
Guest guest
Does anyone know of a *pure* coconut milk other than that from WFN that comes in bottles? My WFN cork bottle caps are definitely leeching into the milk and I'm going to return it. I'm also not interested in cans as I don't want to consume aluminum which I assume leeches from the cans. I think my metal burden's already high enough right now without adding to it further. Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg Weston A. As to guar gum, there are, AFAIK, only degrees of harm. Some people can get away with eating it for awhile, others can't, and just as there are people who take it to help their digestion, there are people who consume loads of soy to help with all kinds of conditions. They're mistaken. -
