I've been off all gluten and bovine casein >for a month, but do a little goat kefir and a smidgeon of goat milk. I'm not >familiar with an acidified upper intestine...any idea of good sources of >info about that? I haven't heard of it at ALL actually, as a diagnosis. But there are folks with acidosis problems, and cows and horses tend to get acidified, so I'm extrapolating. I can't think of an easy way to tell if the upper gut IS acidified without a long tube ... the method mentioned here (muscle testing) I don't have any way of knowing exactly what it is testing for. Muscle testing for allergies seems to pick up allergies ... but it doesn't tell a person WHAT TYPE of allergy it is, just that the food isn't liked by the body. As for sources ... most of it seems to be about cows and horses. Try a search on " acidosis horse " for interesting stuff ... For cows and horses, and probably people, the culprit is usually quickly-digested starches. For me, yam noodles (slow digesting) seem fine, but eating a lot of my starchy toast is not. >I do eat kimchi daily, plus take fervita immune blend (EM brew), and take >Primal Defense. I sometimes drink kombucha and before going off bovine dairy >a month ago (other than butter), drank kefir daily. Any thoughts? I get bloated every so often ... usually it involves me eating raw cabbage or broccolli (I do like both!). I haven't experimented with any of the foods I know set me off though, as far as bloating (those foods give me migraines too, and it isn't worth it). I guess I'd keep track or do a food rotation type diet ... and/or take digestive enzymes. A lot of people seem to do fine on a wide variety of foods as long as they take the enzymes, and sometimes they stop needing the enzymes eventually. -- Heidi Jean

I notice that I sometimes get gassy with kimchi. I don't know if kimchi is the culprit, but I do think I started bloating around the time I started eating kimchi regularly. I guess I will have to cut it out for a bit to see if it's problematic. I think that's a good idea - I just recently started taking enzymes, although I don't always remember to take them. I really need to start a food diary! Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Hmm. I don't think I do. I kind of eat it all the time though, so I might not notice. >I think that's a good idea - I just recently started taking enzymes, >although I don't always remember to take them. Guest guest
> Food diaries are good! Hard to remember. I keep a log book in a black-and-white marbled 100 page exam book. I put it some place I can't avoid it. I write down what time i wake up, the morning weather, how I feel, what exercise I get, how much water I get, bowel movements, when and what supplements and drugs I take, whether I'm on my period, and what I eat. I also note down anything that seems interesting. It takes very little time and at its most bare is just tally marks. I do it so I can remember to take my heart meds on time; otherwise I find myself guessing frantically--did I take them today? Or not? Pill boxes don't help me. I am the laziest person in the world and yet I do this. It keeps me on track.
