Guest guest
Do any of you get constipated on these no/low grain diets?? I've always had a problem with this ...which btw seems to get worse as women age ...and I'm sure seeing that. I'm attributing it to hormones. I eat lots of fermented veggeie foods, use coconut oil/butter oil/CLO, have recently cut my raw dairy intake way down, drink water, eat my meats rare and use gelatin broths, eat lots of greens, little to no wheat, etc. Doing all the correct stuff diet wise. But without the added fiber from lots grains and legumes I just can't seem to lick this problem. My chiropractor has had a running battle with me about using cascara sagrada colon supplements (right now SP's Colax and Schultz's #3 bowel cleanser). His theory is that I need to reteach my colon to move properly and these will stimulate the muscles to do this. He seems to think it'll take about 1 year. I hate doing this as I think I'm going to ultimately end up damaging the colon even more. Plus I really hate the cramping they give me. And often I need to use so much I end up with very soft sticky stools. I don't mind using them occasionally when I'm travelling but his idea of daily use seems ludicrous. He also wants me to use prune juice which is incrediably sweet! It's all my carbs and more if I use the amount he thinks I should. I can't stand it! Maybe I will try fermenting the prunes and having some of that. I haven't tried that. I was using PD but muscle tested no to that. Actually his muscle testing is showing my intestinal microflora is fine. I really couldn't tell a difference with PD. This morning I added 2 Tbsp of ground flax with my brewers yeast to see if that helps. Any thoughts on that? And on the best way to prepare flax if I use it daily. I'm thinking soaking overnight with a bit of whey but then I'm not sure how to grind it. Or maybe grind it then soak overnight with whey or celtic salt ???? I've added Mg thinking that may also help but it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference unless I take large amounts and then once again too loose stools. I really appreciate any thoughts you might have on this. I'm getting so frustrated with this. Thanks Lynn
