I've not posted in awhile myself, as I've been involved elsewhere. Yeah, the VA tends to be most difficult to work with and through! I've forgotten what I read about PID back when you first brought it up, but wonder if you've tried turmeric as an anti-inflammatory? It comes in supplement and spice forms. Curcumin is its main ingredient and is also available in supplement form. When my pain clinic doctor seemed hyped over my needing an anti-inflammatory, I started taking a curcumin-ginger supplement and using turmeric (in its spice/powder form) in my cooking. I've gone almost totally vegetarian now and am feeling much better! Um, I think I remember reading on an alternative health message board that 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoonful of turmeric may also be mixed with a cup of broth three times a day with good results. An antioxidant blend couldn't hurt, either. :-) They usually contain anti-inflammatories, too. All of the above info assumes that PID has much to do with inflammation, of course! <lol> And finally, just for the record, :-) all of my current reliance upon diet and herbal supplements stems from having been referred to the book " Foods That Fight Pain " last year while I was involved with an RSD list. It makes perfect sense, though I gave up on my first attempt in following it last year because I jumped into the suggested diet 'cold turkey' and couldn't handle it. This time, I eased off all the 'nasty' foods and eased *into* the 'good' stuff. Not quite *totally* there yet, but on my way! Works much better!! Good luck to you and great day to all! Guest guest
I know it can be a pain to deal with the VA, but you would feel better with the meds. So far as I know, PID is a chronic condition that is real & I don't think has herbal rescues. Bite the bullet & take the trip. At least in my dealings with them, the VA would give a 3 months supply of meds fairly routinely. Maybe I should be asking why you have to go to the ER for a chronic illness? Guest guest
Because to wait for an appointment would be 1-2 months down the road. Makes it really interesting sometimes. > I know it can be a pain to deal with the VA, but you would feel > better with the meds. Guest guest
, PID is an inflammatory condition that usually comes from infection and unfortunately there are no herbal remedies approved or proven to kill the infection. Why don't you suggest a plan of action be written by you and your doctor as to how to handle these flare-ups especially for times when he is not available to you. He can write you a letter explaining your condition, what tests he wants ordered when there is a problem, and how he wants you treated. He can even add information about whether or not his office or he should be contacted in this situation. This could save you lots of time and energy when you do have to go to the ER and it confirms for them that you are not coming in just trying to get pain medication. I have composed the same sort of letter about my medical condition and it treatment for my vacation in case I have to seek medical attention out of town. I am attaching copies or current labs, tests, and medications and having the doctor sign it so that there is no question about my motive if I show up in the ER. My new diagnosis of dermatomyositis is causing me to have great difficulty breathing and I was worried that they would want to put me through a battery of tests already performed to diagnose where the problem is coming from. In reality, all I would need is treatment since a diagnosis has already been made, but an out of town ER would have no way to verify this information and would be required legally to test me for other respiratory conditions before they could treat me. It is a matter of changing or way of thinking and quite relying on the care providers to know everything and to make decisions about our health care when they don't have the full picture. Caring a detailed medical history, diagnosis list, and treatment plan with us could literally save our lives in a true crisis. I am so glad that you were able to get your computer fixed so quickly. It took me months to get things fixed because by the time we found out we had the virus it had done damage to our computer. Gentle hugs, Fern
