Guest guest
> has anyone tried xylitol? Yes I've used it off and on for years (also called birch sugar). It does taste like sugar except it gives a cooling sensation to the tongue. It's wonderful in foods that are served cool or cold like whip cream, ice teas or ice cream. It also has a reputation for decreasing cavities in the mouth. You can buy xylitol gum for this purpose. I believe it also has been used to effectivily treat ear problems in kids in the Scandanvian countries it comes from. So what about the side effects....I think there was a great article in either the last issue or the previous Wise Traditions on all sweetners and xylitol had some negative effects. I'll look later and see if I can find where I read that stuff. Lynn
