Hi Randi,

I wasn't able to tolerate immuran at all so my dr went back to prednisone, I also take plaquenil which helps the counts but I don't think that they use it for liver disease per say anymore - it was prescribed for my lupus/sjogrens. I have slowly been reducing the pred over the last year after starting with 40 or 50 mg - my mind is blank on which. I am now down to 5 and 7.5 alternating days. So immuran isn't for all.

Subject: insomnia

Hi Cathie,

I have a terrible time with insomnia and prednisone. I also take Ambien but still have it at times, but it really happens when I don't take the Ambien or reduce the dosage. The last time I was having ongoing insomnia the dr. decided that along with some other symptoms, maybe I needed an increase in my Paxil. That helped right away and I've had very few problems lately.

I, too, started weight watchers and am having good success. I had met with the transplant nutritionist who gave me lots of great ideas and guidelines for what I need as a pending transplant but I wasn't able to follow through well. The weight watchers has been easy and the weekly check-in is important to my sticking with it. My dr. said okay as long as I get the necessary protein the nutritionist said I needed.

I also checked with my doctor. He stated that it was a great program. Provides for well balanced meals. I am the type that I don't like a lot of restrictions. If you tell me I can't have it, I will crave it even more and go off the diet to eat it. This program gives me the flexibility that I need.

I had approval also from my Hepatologist to do Weight Watchers. I lost 20 lbs. I had more than enough to keep me full even on moderate doses of Prednisone. I had a bleed and stopped going and gained some of the weight (not all) back but I think it's a good way for use to drop pounds safely. I will start again after the Holidays.

The only thing that concerns me here is the loss of heat from the oven being

propped open. Isn't that quite a waste of energy?

Marginal heat loss when compared to the gain!

If you are really concerned about saving fossil fuels, then incubate outside

in the sun and/ot use a solar reflector like foil or hot rocks.... or find a

source of waste heat like the outside dryer vent or hottub pool cover.

Subject: Whey - colour, candida

Hi,

Two questions regarding whey:

Should home-made whey be bright and see-through? Just made some from

goat's milk and it's quite cloudy and has still some tiny bits of

cheese in it. Shoud I filter it again? I used a gauze as a filter,

should I use a more dense cloth?

My spouse is on a candida elimination diet. She seems to react to

nutritional yeast so all fermented products are not allowed. Milk

products are out also. How about whey, should it also be eliminated?

She would love to have some NT porridge soaked overnight in whey and

water.

..

..

You are not culturing the yoghurt for a long enough time. I culture mine for

at least 24 hours and the whey is crystal clear. Any clumps of yoghurt in

the whey indicates that the culturing container has been disturbed during the

process.

be a problem for someone dealing with severe Candida.

Has anyone used a stainless-steel thermos for making yogurt? I've seen

wide-mouthed quart thermoses at camping stores that look nice. Is it okay to

use stainless steel instead of glass?

That's the technique my disabled German friend, C-M, uses and it is very

successful for her. Volume too small for me. I make about a gallon a couple of

times a week.
