I have been to Germany and there I discussed my liver health with my

doctor as my liver enzymes have been steadily rising. ( And no, I am

not an alcoholic. My mother has a similar problem and she drinks once a

month, and only one glass of wine as she feels too foggy brained to

imbibe more.)

It has forced me to read up on the liver in the past few days and so

many pennies have dropped. It is the liver which manufactures steroids

which would might explain why there is a blunted adrenal response in

autism. If the liver is not functioning optimally, it cannot provide the

stuff to make the adrenals respond to stress (ie not enough cortisol) .

All very confusing but to sort this out in my mind, can I get lab valus

from people here. It would be very helpful...

If you have readings for the following:

1. cholesterol

2. LDL and HDL

3. Vitamin A

4. liver enzymes eg. GGT, SGOT etc.

This would help me figure out things further.

The oft reported fat absorption problems might also stem from the liver

as well as low immunoglobulin values. Also difficulty converting beta

carotene to retinol, iron/zinc and copper metabolism and a WHOLE host of

other things too numerous to mention here.

I have never paid much attention to the liver until now as I always

regarded it as a detoxing organ and nothing more and completely forgot

that it is also integral to the metabolism of fats and proteins etc.

I have always wondered about these children who do well when they have a

fever, many of their autistic sysmptoms go. I always thought that it had

to do with the fever. Maybe it's the fact that they are NOT eating and

therefore are lighteneing the liver burden.....

So now I am concentrating on the adrenal/liver connection....

I feel I am getting closer to the crux of the issue!
