A body temperature bath, lots of fluids, herbal tea: ginger and lemon with peppermint, elder and yarrow, drink hot. Cool cloths on your forehead and feet with a few drops of lavender added to the water. Cool wraps in sheets that have been soaked in tepid water. The only time our fevers were very high was about 2 and half years ago when we got the flu. (not the stomach variety) I couldn't have bathed any of us though because we all came down with it at the same time and were pretty much bedridden for a few days! Using OTC remedies for fever, i.e. acetaminophen or ibuprofen will put an added burden on your body that is already working to fight off the infection. 103 is high but not, in itself, life-threatening in a normally healthy child or adult. Certainly if you are getting dehydrated or worried about your condition you should seek medical help. We have been very lucky " knock on wood " that we were only hit with a mild stomach virus so far. So many people have been hit hard with it over and over this year. .. .. >>> , Delano and all My son is medically fragile and has gran mal seizures at about 102.5 F. I agree that fevers serve a good purpose. However, when his temperature approaches 102.0, I get a bag of frozen veggies out of the freezer, wrap in a towel and place it under his feet. The objective is to draw the heat away from his head. THis simple technique works for us. And, hope it also helps you. mjh http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/
Guest guest
Thanks for all the good suggestions. My dh and I have not done OTC anything for a very long time either, maybe at least 20 years. My understanding of fevers is that fevers are good, it means that your body is fighting the infection. Tipid baths are what I would do for my children if they got up as high as 102-103, cold rags on the forehead too. I didn't think of cold on the feet or to add lavender to the water! Sure hope this is only for a couple of days and not 2 weeks like my dd had to go through. That's why I love you guys so much. When I am not thinking someone here is!
