Guest guest
so, yay for mothering doing the soy-is-bad article. however, there's also a segment from the green guide saying that you shouldn't have any dairy products when you're pregnant because of dioxins (so insead you should choose skim milk (since dioxin is in the FAT), nonfat dairy products, and tofu). arg. at least it says you should eat grassfed meat. but of course, because of the dioxins, everyone will be cutting off the fat! my feeling on dioxins is that it's somewhat unavoidable. the animals get it by eating the grass, and that means that even vegetarians will get it by eating vegetables. at least i can eat stuff raised away from highways, and that's the best i can do i think. anyone else have thoughts? (have we discussed this before?) -katja

Now commercial beef is fed animal fat (I think it is restricted now, as far as sheep fat, but I'm sure they get fish meal?), so it might accumulate more than grass fed beef. But I've often wondered if some of the statistical " fat is bad " info might be traceable to toxins that accumulate in the fat of modern animals. Chicken probably has it too, esp. since they are fed meat meal. Vegies have it too, but not in the concentrations that are found as you go up the food chain. Also, when you LOSE weight, the dioxin in YOUR fat goes into your system. This is said to make Orcas sick when food is scarce, they have high dioxin in their fat too. Sure would be nice if someone worked on stopping the SOURCES of this stuff! Like the companies that are creating it .... -- Heidi Jean
