Vera,

I freeze raw milk all the time. To thaw, I just leave it out on my counter

all day and texture is perfect. I don't know about the enzyme question

(we've discussed it before, but IIRC, we never came to a conclusion) but

even if some enzymes are destroyed, it's still MUCH better than any past.

milk product, organic or otherwise.

Since you are not buying local, I would recommend you find a better source

than Organic Pastures. When I'm in CA, that's what I buy, but my PA source

(small Mennonite farmer) is MUCH MUCH MUCH higher in quality and taste.

Where are you located? I would call some smaller/family farms listed on

rawmilk.com to find a better source, since you have to mail order anyway.

hi jessica - thanks for the reply!

i live in southern oregon, usa and i'm hoping to still locate raw

dairy here - if it's anywhere it oughta be here! hehe

i'm a little confused about rawmilk.com i went there and

it's " Trethowan's Gorwydd Caerphilly " a cheese product but i didn't

see any info about small family farms or raw milk. has my computer

gone haywire? lol

i'd have to agree that even if ALL the enzymes are killed by

freeZing it's still gotta be better than your average milk off the

shelf (which i don't buy, we buy organic, but that's really not all

that much better if it's still past./hom. and not from grass-fed

cows). i guess tho that my concern is that this raw stuff is so

expensive and add the shipping costs on top of it, i'd likely just

reduce dairy consumption and make nut milk in lieu of spending big

bucks on a dead product, kwim?

and i'm kinda new to all this and, even tho i understand it all

intellectually, i'm still kinda icked-out at the thought of buying

raw dairy from someone that isn't tested. how would i know if their

produt is clean and safe? it was encouraging to see how

organicpastures passes their testing with flying colors - well above

the standards set by the industry! (like the industry allows up to

15,000 bacteria and organicpastures never came close to that)

i got a phone # from realmilk.com and called a man for info about

cow share programs but he has not returned my call yet. :(

thanks

Sorry--the site is http://www.realmilk.com/ and it sounds like you already

know about it. In terms of testing--if you can get a good rec from people

who drink and like a particular farm's milk, that's pretty good assurance,

IMO. And yes, raw dairy is only one small component of NT--many folks on

this list don't consume dairy at all.

In Portland you can buy raw goat milk at Whole Foods and Wild Oats,

etc.

You could check such stores in your area.
