I'm thinking of switching digestive enzymes from " Digestzymes " which contains " Pancreatin 4X> supplying: Amylase 20,000 USP Protease 20,000 USP Lipase 1,600 USP " to Bio-Gest which contains 70 mgs. pure pancreatin. No breakdown given. > I think you may have to ask the makers of Bio-gest what the USP units are. I think you have to know the activity per gram of the stuff you're using in order to compare. No breakdown given. > Hi Suze I have been looking into this lately - the pancreatin I buy is Solgar brand. First of all, it has REALLY helped me, my husband, and both my parents CONSIDERABLY! If you are going down this route, I'm sure you will notice a difference to your digestion. (My dad suffered diarrhea for about a year, he took the pancreatin at 3 evning meals and saw a huge difference, same with my mum.) It really helps with digestion of food and reduces bloating significantly. The solgar brand lists the following: Pancreatin (4X concentrate, equivalent to 3000 mg of whole pancreatin ) 750 mg Supplying: Protease 75,000 USP units Amylase 75,000 USP units Lipase 15,000 USP units. Note the concentrate bit - perhaps that is why it contains more of each of the enzymes. So, Solgar is 750mg, which is very high compared to your Biogest at 70mg. If the biogest contains 1/10 of the Solgar, then I would suggest your current brand has higher content. Solgar also has a product which has PAncreatin 4x equivalent to 510mg pancreatin, but this is not concentrated. There is no breakdown of the enzymes in this. I'm mainly looking to switch my dogs' DE, but I recently started taking it myself too, so it would be for all of us. I think my current brand is generally a good brand, but it contains magnesium stearate, as so many supplements do, and mag stearate has been found to reduce capsule solubiltiy by 65% AND stearates have been found to depress imunity. My current brand contains mag stearate, which is why I'm looking to replace it. As for Solgar, I can get that here, but I refuse to support Monsanto knowingly, and Solgar is owned by Monsanto. Thorne products are excellent quality and many are additive-free as Bio-Gest seems to be. Plus Heidi's found it to work well for her, that's why I decided to try Bio-Gest. > >The solgar brand lists the following: >Pancreatin (4X concentrate, equivalent to 3000 mg of whole >pancreatin ) 750 mg Supplying: Protease 75,000 USP units Amylase >75,000 USP units Lipase 15,000 USP units. >Note the concentrate bit - perhaps that is why it contains more of >each of the enzymes. > >So, Solgar is 750mg, which is very high compared to your Biogest at >70mg. (Thanks for the suggestion Martha :-) Thanks for your reply Jo, and congrats on the wedding! Sounds like you were able to get your weight down and fit into that wedding dress as you'd hoped.
