Guest guest
Actually that's exactly what it is. I get it raw because she's my friend and she new I was wanting to get raw milk. And thank you for the crispy nut recipe! I'm going to make this soon! My oven doesn't go lower than 200 so maybe crack the door open??? I was thinking about getting chickens, I'll have to see if we can afford to rig up some sort of shelter. The only thing is we rent a farmhouse but the feilds and barn the landlord uses, the feild goes around 3 sides of the yard and he sprays chemicals, would that end up on the weeds/ bugs and into the chickens thus into us? wrote: Maybe real big farms that only milk their cows and don't do any other farming? But those won't sell to individuals and raw, too? Just my thoughts... Guest guest
*SIGH* OK now I understand. But she's your friend, so you CAN ask all the questions about feed and all. Have a look at the cows, how they are treated. They sure don't have a name, but do they have enough space etc. What I find important is not so much about the quality of the milk, it's just about how well the cows are treated. Go near the cow and see what she does. Does she watch you and try to sniff or does she run away even though she had been eating? Milk cows, not calves. Calves will always come to you and try to suck on everything available (hands, clothes, hair...). I'm glad that the cows where I get my milk aren't scared of me (a stranger), they are just curious. I just stand there and look at them and they look back and sniff and make a long neck to see whether I have something for them. They are not begging, but they are interested and curious and definitely not afraid. I guess they would be if I acted more wildly and leave me alone. Most of my uncles cows are scared of people. I never seen my uncles hurt the cows or anything. Another uncle had names for each cow and those were the cows who weren't afraid of people (strangers). Unfortunately, I don't remember whether the other cows were afraid of my uncles, too or just of me (the stranger), so I can't tell, whether they were afraid of people or of strangers. But I'm sure that uncle is the only one of them who liked the animals most and doesn't just see them as milk or meat producers (which is something that just happens when you have a farm and have to live off it). I would give the milk a try. See if you like it or not. After all you get the milk before a dairy can treat it further. And WHO guarantees you the feed of the " organic " cows? But of course, keep looking! (that comes from someone who " keeps looking " for any cows milk beside Holstein in a region famous for their black and white cows... do know a source selling raw sheep milk, but never been there, it's just too far and got no car, but ONE DAY... ! well and know a source of raw goat milk and get some every now and then. It's about 3-4 times as expensive as the raw cows milk and too far to go there by bike. But well, about once a month, I get some. CU Anja > Actually that's exactly what it is.
