This ad was posted on the Celiac group ... it's really interesting, I don't

think

it is as sensitive as the Fine test, but it's easier. The ad also talks about

the different types of food allergies I keep harping about. From what

I've heard, this test is about as sensitive as the blood tests.

>HOLLYWOOD, FL--June 2, 2004 -- York Nutritional Laboratories has announced

>it will now provide the saSCAN Secretory IgA Food Intolerance Kit, which

>can conveniently be administered in the comfort of one=92s own home or in

>the privacy of a doctor's office. Unlike competing tests, which require a

>full blood draw, the saSCAN can be performed by means of a simple saliva

>collection mechanism. Originally developed by Diagnos-Techs, the saSCAN

>screens the four most common culprit foods involved in IgA-mediated food

>allergy (e.g. - Egg, Gluten, Milk and Soy).

>

>According to Kernohan, Director of York Nutritional

>Laboratories, =93We=92re very excited over our new strategic alliance with

>Diagnos-Techs and our ability to provide the saSCAN Secretory IgA Food

>Intolerance Test. It=92s a wonderful compliment to our foodSCAN IgG ELISA

>Food Intolerance Finger-Stick Test, which when used in conjunction with

>each other, allows physicians and patients alike to have an accurate,

>reliable and cost-effective means to screen for both IgA-mediated and IgG

>delayed onset allergic reactions.=94

>When it comes to food allergy, there are typically two kinds:

>

>* Type 1 (Classic, Immediate-Onset, IgE-Mediated): The reaction time

>occurs anywhere from seconds to up to 2 hours and typically affects the

>skin, airways or the digestive system. Conventional skin =93scratch=94 test=

>s

>are commonly used to detect this type of food allergy.

>

>* Type 3 (Food Intolerance, Delayed-Onset, IgG-Mediated, IgA-Mediated):

>The reaction time occurs anywhere from a couple of hours, and up to 2-3

>days, after consumption of the food, and any system, tissue or organ in

>the body can be affected. The saSCAN Secretory IgA Food Intolerance Kit,

>and the foodSCAN IgG ELISA Food Intolerance Test, screen for this type of

>immune reaction.

>Background notes...

>

>1). York Nutritional Laboratories came to international attention with its

>development of the foodSCAN, which is a simple kit that provides a

>convenient method to test for IgG-mediated food allergy. A tiny =93pin-

>prick=94 sample of blood is taken and is then sent to the laboratory for

>analysis. The established Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)

>technique is used to identify an individual=92s IgG antibody reactions

>against 113 different, and commonly eaten, foods.

>

>2). The saSCAN Secretory IgA Food Intolerance Kit is an easy, safe and

>accurate way to analyze the antigen specific Secretory IgA in saliva to

>detect genetically inherited food intolerances to egg, gluten, milk and

>soy protein. Individuals predisposed to IgA-mediated food intolerance

>usually experience intestinal inflammation after consumption of the

>offending food(s). Subsequently, the intestinal mucosa releases Secretory

>IgA to neutralize the antigens. SigA testing allows detection of mild,

>sub-clinical, and latent intolerance cases.

>

>3). The foodSCAN IgG ELISA Food Intolerance Test screens 113 foods for IgG-

>mediated food allergy and has been validated by multiple independent

>studies; including the British Allergy Foundation's 1751 patient study,

>which was overseen by the Department of Health Studies at York University,

>and a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial performed by the University

>Hospital of South Manchester.

>

>4). York Nutritional Laboratories provides finger-stick and saliva tests

>for IgG-mediated food intolerance, IgA-mediated food intolerance, Celiac

>Disease, Helicobacter Pylori (H.pylori), IgE-mediated food & airborne

>allergy, and metabolic analysis.
