Try brushing with pure olive oil bar soap--it's olive green in color and comes from Greece or France or some other olive-producing region. Be sure it has no perfume and dye added. Kiss My Face might make a version, IIRC. Takes tartar off like a dream and you do get used to the taste. If you like the " minty fresh " aspect of toothbrushing, use the soap at night, and use baking soda mixed with a TINY amount of true essential oil of peppermint (premix a cup of soda with 1 or 2 drops of oil). Cheap and works great. You can moisten your toothbrush with hydrogen peroxide or water before dipping it into the powder.
