Guest guest
Can anyone comment on or point me to any WAPF research done on the topic of chronic inflammation and its apparently many harmful effects? Thanks, DMJ
Guest guest
I used to teach first grade but after years of being sick from the start of each school year and very sick by Christmas I quit teaching. It was a very difficult decision but I felt like I was not very effective as a teacher when I felt so lousy all the time. I loved teaching but hated being sick. michelle From: samters [mailto:samters ] On Behalf Of Jane Marino Sent: Saturday, December 05, 2009 1:55 PM samters Subject: Re: Chronic inflammation How did you know my story? You basically told my story from beginning to end. Except I've been teaching 25 years, have had 9 polyp surgeries, etc. I have been desensitized to aspirin 2 and half years ago and have now been out of surgery 3 years. That is a record for me. However, I too, by this time of the school year, am on my umteenth course of antibiotics and Prednisone. I have also been told recently that although I do not currently have polyps, my sinuses are terribly inflamed again, which predisposes me to polyp development. I also irrigate twice daily and forever get lovely gunk out of my sinuses. You are correct in that we work in one of the mose unhealthy environments. Like you, I love my job and love my kids. I teach Special Education on the Elementary level. But, I have made the decision, that this will be my last year and that I must do something different. I just can not keep doing this every year. I keep thinking back to how healthy I was this summer when I was out of school. I actually dreaded going back knowing that I would spend the next 9 months sick. I guess I just wanted to say that I feel your pain. If anyone out there has a recommendation about how to combat inflammation, I too would be very interested. Jane From: gongfy79 <gongfycomcast (DOT) net> Subject: Chronic inflammation samters Date: Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11:10 AM I am hoping I can find some solutions from someone with similar issues. I have posted history previously, but briefly I have had 4 sinus surgeries - polyps - revision - left frontal infection - and right turbinate. My doctors continue with a diagnosis of Samter's, although I have not exhibited a reaction to aspirin. I had a complete rheumatology work-up this summer, so everything else has been ruled out (e.g. Churg Strauss, Wegener's, etc.) I am currently taking low dose aspirin because of a family history of heart disease. They don't seem to think desensitization is the answer. I teach 4th Grade and my symptoms are so much worse during the school year. It usually starts out that I am exposed to a cold or flu virus (a classroom is a veritable petri dish)and then the inflammation begins. I haven't had to have any new large polyps removed. What happens is I get what my Dr. calls polypoid tissue that inflames - so much so that my sinuses literally swell shut. Then I get thickened mucus and a massive infection. So here I am at Christmas time again (happens every year) on high dose prednisone and Levaquin. My Dr. tried having me start on 1000 mg. of amoxicillin the first day of school. That worked until I got the swine flu and it triggered a cascade of inflammatory reactions - bronchitis and now this massive sinus infection. I am irrigating with pulmacort respules in my Neil Med bottle twice a day, using Flovent 220mg. with a nasal attachment, and taking 2400 mg. of guaifenisin a day as well. This is my 3rd round of prednisone since getting the flu in October. I am seriously concerned that I am going to have to quit teaching at some point. I absolutely love my job and it would literally break my heart. Does anyone else have similar issues and have you found anything that works? Getting out of the classroom didn't make any difference for me, as far as sinus infections and growing polyps. I still get both. I'm in Florida, and some schools are really 'sick' with mold. I spent 17 years in a very old, very run-down school and the last 13 years I've been in 2 brand new schools. Makes no difference for me. Glad to hear someone gets some relief, though. Guest guest
Thank goodness that you haven’t experienced polyp regrowth. This summer I was having problems with thick and colored mucus blocking my sinuses. A member of this growth suggested taking Oil of Oregano. It worked great, within a week my mucus was thinner (more watery) and the color went from dark yellow to clear. The only precaution that I would add is to use the Oregano capsules and NOT the drops. Guest guest
Hi Becca, I am bummed about leaving teaching, but life (and health) sometimes moves us in new directions. I am trying to focus on what I will do next. Interesting that you mentioned being on antibiotic nasal sprays. I just saw my ENT yesterday and he is putting me on a nasal spray of Gentamycin. He feels that I still have an ongoing infection in the back of my sinuses. I hope this will help. I hope your surgery and desensitization will be a big success. I will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Best of luck. Jane From: <rebeebit@...>Subject: Re: Chronic inflammationsamters Date: Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 7:11 PM Jane,That is so sad that you have to leave teaching! I notice a difference as well in my building, but I'm not too sick this year. This is mostly because I'm on an antibiotic nasal spray and an insanely high dose of nasal steroids. The folks at Nat'l Jewish told me to knock it off with the nasal steroids, already, but two days after I backed off the polyps started back with a vengence. Hopefully, the 'roids won't kill me between now and January 25--my surgery date! My desense is scheduled as well, boy I can't wait.Interesting note: the doc at National Jewish (Dr. Weber, anyone know him? He won't be doing my desense, but he met with me) said he's not a fan of singulair, he thinks it's not that great. Just curious what other people's opinions are, I'm just so sick of meds.Take care, and I'm sure your school will miss you!Becca> > > From: gongfy79 <gongfy@...>> Subject: Chronic inflammation> samters@groups ..com> Date: Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11:10 AM> > > Â > > > > I am hoping I can find some solutions from someone with similar issues.
