To the best of my knowledge, the chips in each electrode head read the signal at the scalp and adjust the gain based on what they find.I guess the reduction would also depend on how bad a connection you were comparing them with.

What is the actual amplification factor of yon Intellectrode gizmo?

And what percentage reduction of 60Hz hum is actually achieved

in an electrically noisy environment with them?
