>> Christie, you said in a prev. post you put cream in your coffee. do you

still drink it? i wish the desire for it would just leave me. i love

the stuff but i wish i could off it for good. <<

Yes, but it's decaf coffee. I have had the " real stuff " a few times since

starting Atkins, when I was traveling and wasn't in control of my own

bedtime and needed the caffeine to wake me up, but I do find that caffeine

seems to screw with my blood sugar, so I avoid it.

I was a demon coffee drinker up until my early 30s, but I switched mostly to

decaf then, and never drink coffee at home (I drink tea). So it wasn't that

big of a deal to give it up for me when I went on Atkins. My first cup of

tea in the morning is regular black tea, and then I switch to decaf for tea

later in the day. I only drink coffee (always decaf) when I'm out. And since

I live in the middle of nowhere, LOL, I don't go out all that often - not

even once a week.

Have you tried decaf coffee?

Christie,

decaf doesn't taste the same, no matter what i get. I've concluded that

the actual caffeine in the coffee has a certain 'taste' and contributes

to the richness of the coffee. we're down to half decaffeinated for many

years now, the dh and me, but every time i try to go less caffeine than

that it tastes gross. and it doesn't matter what brand or how expensive.

I've tried gevalia and starbucks. doesn't matter. gotta have at least

half of the real thing or it tastes gross to me.

, I just don't know... I don't really think this is true, but then I've

never tried Gevalia and I have had Starbucks coffee maybe three times in my

life. I don't consider them even REMOTELY to be really good coffees.

I buy bulk coffee from a store that sells coffee beans. There are maybe two

dozen or more decaffeinated varieties mixed in with a few dozen caffeinated.

It's not like they have the regular coffee and the decaf version of the same

coffee, and you compare the two. I'm POSITIVE that one of the many excellent

decaffeinated coffee beans out there will make a cup of coffee that you

like.

It's sort of like, I don't know... cheese. I've had people tell me they

" don't like cheese " who in my opinion have never had cheese, because their

idea of cheese is Kraft American.<G>

Get coffee beans from a gourmet coffee shop. Ask them to let you taste their

best selling decaf bean. Shop around a bit. Try the internet... type in

gourmet coffee at google. You'll find something yummy, I promise. Sometimes

finding really wonderful food takes a bit of detective work!
