What does Kombucha tea taste like? Rhonda

I'm very intriqued with starting my own kombucha tea. From

everything I've read it sounds wonderful. And everyone says the

taste is great. But, can anyone describe the taste to me? Also have

any of you purchased kombucha mushroom over ebay with good results?

I'm a little nervous about the quality.

Several years ago, my mom used to make kombucha, and I thought it

tasted like strong apple cider. It tasted good and I was about 17 at

the time.

One time I gave a friend of mine and glass and told him it was apple

cider, which he promptly drank down. He liked it. Of course, when

he opened the fridge a little later and saw the jar with the floating

mushroom thingy, he was pretty peeved. I still rib him about it.

I would describe the taste of K tea as a hard cider. It's both sweet and

sour at the same time, though you can adjust the sweet/sour ratio by varying

the length of fermentation time. The longer the fermentation time, the more

sour the K tea. I let mine ferment for about 3 weeks, and it is still quite

sweet. My 5yo daughter and 2yo son love the taste.

I bought my culture from G.E.M. Cultures (http://www.gemcultures.com), which

is not the least expensive route; but it is a very reliable source for

high-quality cultures.
