Guest guest
You know what that reminded me of? Being a little girl raised in the " city " (of a whole whopping 14,000 people!) and visiting my Aunt Ernestine on her farm. I remember getting out of the car and being utterly amazed at seeing chickens all over the yard: hens, roosters, chicks, the whole bit. And she had cats too to keep the mice down, and I never once saw the cats chase the chicks. In fact, one of those hens gave me what for because I kept toddling after the adorable chicks trying to pick one of the adorable fluffies up. Amazing the things you end up forgetting... Which reminds me, I have family who free raises chickens!! I could get eggs and birds from her... 'cept she lives 4 hours away from me, and since we *just* sold the house last night, if we're really moving to Montana, she'll be 31 hours away. Yipes! If anyone lives in KY, I can point you my aunt's direction. She's got beehives too! I was visiting a small property recently that had a mother hen with 5 little chicks that were roaming around loose in the yard. I said 'but wouldn't the cat get the chicks' and the answer was that the mother hen tells the cats what's what - in no uncertain terms. Cheers, Tas'.
