Guest guest
Thank you all for the advice (too many to reply individually LOL) I am gleaning much wisdom. As to starting solids, a doctor I like said that they let you know by trying to eat yours. But what about when your 2.5 month old is eyeballing every bite you take and you have to wrestle the fork out of her hand for each one?? Surely it's too early! But she gives me this " give me your steak or DIE " look. LOL. But it's best to avoid the allergens ... egg white, commercial milk, and grains. The gut isn't well formed at that age, and giving rat pups certain foods at that age leads reliably to problems. Also when grain cereals are fed early in a culture, celiac rates go way up! Kefir has been fed to preemies though, with good results, and getting probiotics into a kid helps develop their gut (the bacteria promote blood vessel growth, it seems). -- Heidi Jean > > >

LOL it's my understanding that up until a certain age they won't choke because their tongue is pressed up on the back of their throat. old books that recommended feeding young babies talked about using the spoon to depress the tongue to get past that problem. babies love to put stuff into their mouth and explore it's texture so it might be more about exploration at her age than hunger. but you never know! does she nurse on demand? is it possible that your milk supply is subsiding a bit? possibly you're dehydrated?
