I am a 38 f with a dh, and 2 dd's (4 & 5 y.o.) living in No. VA. Two years ago I found out I had diabetes, Type II. The fat persons diabetes as people are so happy to tell me. I'm not sure if it's the fat that causes diabetes, or the diabetes that causes the fat. I've heard it both ways. In the past month I've been able to come off my diabetes medication due to diet and exercise and I am so happy about that. I am taking a few other medications that I would eventually love to come off of to. I've been reading a lot about macrobiotics and cancer, macrobiotics and other ailments, but I haven't come across any info yet on macro and diabetes. Does anyone know of some links they could send me to on this subject or have any information on this? My main motivation in not wanting my disease to progress to where I do have to take oral medication again and eventually, insulin. I really want to believe that my body can heal itself.I have to say that I'm not even a vegetarian at this point and I'm wondering if there are steps to ease into this or is it better to just jump in with both feet first? I'm so clueless as where to begin. One final question and I apologize for this being so long. What do you do with the rest of your family? My dh is a meat eating military man and my 2 girls definitely couldn't do this. How do you adapt for them?Lori __________________________________________________

Guest guest
hey lori! wow - that is soooo amazing and great that you got off the medications. I have type one diabetes which is rather different but have done a lot of research on both types. Type 2 - the one you are overcoming is VERY responsive to diet and lifestyle. you can't go past a wholefood body friendly, low or no animal food approach. Though you can already make changes with wherever you are at - upgrading your choices and emphasizing the foods you want to move towards rather than the ones you want to move away from. there are also some very good natural supplements which may help you through the transition and to repair the body as you rely more and more on food choices. there is tons of info online. if you need any pointers, just ask. there is an ebook on diabetes by mason which is available free for the moment from his website. If you have any trouble finding it let me know! keep us posted on your progess. you are very right to be wary of the meds and insulin. it doesnt solve the problem and often creates many others... olivia.rose4 wrote: Hello VeganMacrobiotics Board! Guest guest
Welcome to the group and thank you so much for sharing. You will get heaps of info here. There are some really charming people out there aren't there? Just ignore them, take care of yourself and have the last laugh. Do things one step at a time. As far as your husband is concerned. I don't think that being in the military means meat eater. There was an article I read (no clue when) talking about vegans/vegetarians in the military. Just because you are in the military doesn't mean you can't be compassionate and concerned about your health. There is a video out being sold by Peta called meet your meat. may be a good thing to buy and it's only $5. About your children. It will depend on if you have your husband's support or not too. If it were me (not saying this is what you have to do) I would tell my kids this is the way it is learn to love it, see why I do it. Make it fun for them. Surely there are meals they consume which are not flesh related? What is their favorite meal? see how you can make it animal friendly. Try sticking to lots of whole grains and veggies and slowly eliminate the other stuff. keep reading and keep asking questions here. If you slip, wipe your butt, bitch and moan here and then keep going. you'll have to give yourself a pat on the back too remembering how far you've gotten when it happens. Be proud of yourself that you're taking an approach to helping heal yourself, no one else can do it like you can. I like the 'cold turkey' approach myself. Peace, Reggie > > Hello VeganMacrobiotics Board! I am a 38 f with a dh, and 2 dd's (4 > & 5 y.o.) living in No. VA. Two years ago I found out I had > diabetes, Type II. Guest guest
I haven't, but I just looked at there website and I'll definitely be going there soon. I've been searching the web for vegetarian or macrobiotic cooking classes and haven't been able to find anything. Do you know of any resources to make it easier to find? Guest guest
I would go to 's Cybermacro website, www.cybermacro.com, to see the listings for teachers there in your area, and I would also consider purchasing the magazine Macrobiotics Today so you can see the list of teachers/resources at the end of the publication. This can be purchased as a hardcopy magazine sent to you in the mail, or also as a downloadable pdf file on 's website. Another great resource that I can't live without is the International Macrobiotic Directory that costs $12 and has info for places all over the entire world! Making a Transition to a Macrobiotic Diet (I hope this link works) http://www.kushistore.com/cgi-bin/sh000000.pl?ACTINIC_REFERRER=http% 3a%2f%2fwww%2ekushistore%2ecom%2facatalog%2fsearch% 2ehtml & REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ekushistore%2ecom%2facatalog%2fshop% 2ehtml & WD=transition & SHOP=%20 & PREVQUERY=SS%3dtransition%26ACTION%3dGo% 2521%26PR%3d%2d1%26TB%3dA%26SHOP%3d%20 & PN=Macrobiotic_Cookbooks% 2ehtml%23a0_2d89529_2d363_2d3#a0_2d89529_2d363_2d3 > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello VeganMacrobiotics Board!
