Here in farm country there are a LOT of feral cats. A cat CAN take down a chicken, but most won't, esp. if they are well fed. Feral cats are another story though. Also, how do they know it was cats? Could be possums or coyotes too. Or bobcats. Also it depends on the chicken. Some chickens are very docile. Mine are not, they fight like anything, they have full wing feathers, and they run in a flock. However, I think they eat chickens that are dying or dead, I've found some half-eaten. We lost some because of some food (they would get dazed and just kind of sit til the died .. I don't know what they were eating though) all in one month. But my cat will attack a baby chicken, if she gets the chance. I keep the babies penned. I was at the auction today though, and heard a sad story from a young girl whose duck was eaten by an eagle. I did not think eagles attacked ducks! -- Heidi Jean
