Guest guest
> What are your favorite TV cooking shows? Good Eats! ALTON BROWN RULES! He's also not afraid of fat. Alton is my hero and by cracky I will figure out a way to interview that man if it's the last thing I do. Batali--Tony Bourdain says he's doing God's work and I agree. Sara Moulton--More conventional but great for learning technique. I also really like some of the " food " movies ... like " Mostly Martha " which was superb, and " Fast Runner " (about Inuit life, pretty authentic it seems). -- Heidi Jean
Guest guest
Alton Brown is great stuff! A lot of his material (recipes & theory) comes from the book written by Shirley Corriher who often appears in his shows. The book is called CookWise, which seems like a more accessible version of On Food And Cooking by Harold McGee. I wish there was more of this sort of TV! Lately, I found some really good restaurant related reality shows! There's NBC's The Restaurant, but I missed the first season. My Restaurant Rules is a great Australian reality show about 5 couples building & running a restaurants in different cities. And the most interesting one I saw was British Channel 4's Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. Basically Gordon Ramsey goes to some horrible restaurant and tries to fix up the mess they're in, in both food & business. The stuff that goes on in the profiled kitchens must be seen to be believed! Guest guest
Hands down favorite: Lydia's Italian Kitchen on PBS. Her love of simple food is truly inspiring. Of course much of what she cooks I can't eat (lot's of wheat in Italian food) but when she talks fish or vegetables, she's a true maestra. It's like having an old fashioned grandma cooking for you in your living room.
Guest guest
i don't watch cooking shows, but i do teach cooking classes. i'm glad you like it mellow!! i love to use no measuring in cooking classes, so that people realize that cooking really can be mellow. it's not a precise science! so far, it's working out - no one has white-knuckled me yet At 03:32 AM 6/15/2004, you wrote: > > >Hi Heidi, Marie and others too, > > > >What are your favorite TV cooking shows? > >I like the Barefoot Contessa.
