And those poor middle and upper class women got syphilus from their

spouses. There was even an ad for some arsenic(?) laced candy so

you could treat your spouse for syphilus without them knowing you

gave it to them. STD's were probably worse in those days than now.

During the days of early America, there was more talk about sex with kids. There

was a surprising study on it ... the kids were told exactly what they could

and couldn't do with the opposite sex before marriage, to avoid unwanted babies

and STD's. That struck me as awfully pragmatic! Of course they were farm kids

so they knew the facts of life.

That strikes me as a lot better than the n era, where a guy went

to his first prostitute to prove his manhood, and women were kept

ignorant til they got married.

As far as keeping sex " contained " , using prostitutes is the WORST thing

you can do from a biological standpoint. If one did get infected, she would

infect tens or hundreds of men (who would be infecting other women and

maybe men) before it got caught. Something like that is happening in the porn

industry, tho they do test the actors.

If you want to have a healthy population, the thing to do would be to test

every couple before they have sex, and keep them as monagamous as

possible. However they could talk about sex all they want, and even read

dirty books, and that would not affect their STD status one bit. (I'm all in

favor of monagomy, BTW, as I think most women are when it comes down

to it).

Anyway, in the circle I ran in, we were " chaste " as far as what we DID but

we necked a lot and talked a lot. I had enough biology background to

not want STD's or a baby! But a lot of kids are woefully ignorant of

the basics, even though they may be fooling around a lot.
