Guest guest
My almost 6 month old gets congestion in his chest whenever I eat raw goat yogurt. When my other kids were nursing I stayed off dairy as well (raw dairy does not agree with me with the exception of raw goat yogurt which doesn't agree with my breasfed son). I would probably give raw goat dairy a try (I'd kefir it first). Elainie

If he's having a reaction, it's likely due to the vastly different proteins in the formula. In order to make " whey protein " , milk has to be heated to an exceptionally high temperature, and that changes the shape of the molecules. Were it me, I'd try him on raw cow's milk or kefir made from it before I'd go to the expense of raw goat's milk. Just make sure it's raw, whichever you pick. The kefir would be a good choice as well because of all the probiotics in it. Hope this helps! Guest guest
it's true he MIGHT be allergic to milk, but i'm more concerned about what *else* you're feeding him. does he eat wheat or other gluten grains? does he eat sugar? i'd get rid of that first - it's far more likely to be the culprit. also, does he go to daycare, or do you go out a lot with him? could it just be that he got a cold and never fully recovered from it? if that seems likely to you, perhaps a good week or so of not leaving the house wouldn't be remiss... -katja At 12:11 AM 6/29/2004, you wrote: >Hi! > >I am new to this group. My son is almost one and > I'm not sure how or when to wean him from the formula to whole > milk. Also, he has had a cough/congestion off and on for some time. > Hi, I started my baby on raw goat's milk when he was around 6.5 months old due to nursing problems- long story! Two days after starting him on the raw goat's milk he developed a runny nose plus congestion. I to thought he was having a milk allergy reaction, but I didn't take him off of the goat's milk I kept giving it to him. Around two weeks later his congestion and runny nose went away. So just hang in there it might just be a common cold or maybe it just takes time for a body to adjust to something new-(that's what a nutritionist told me). I might be bias but I think raw goat's milk for babies is a better choice. Plus, your baby is a year now and should be able to handle whole raw milk without making the N.T. formula. Just continue with the cod liver oil. Good luck, Gail (storeys@...)
Guest guest
>. Also, he has had a cough/congestion off and on for some time. >>It concerns me and I am wondering if he is allergic to milk. So >>many people these days attribute so many of our problems to dairy. I second Katja's thoughts ... kids get sinusitis a LOT and it is rarely diagnosed. It goes on forever and they get these lingering coughs after a cold. It can cause permanent damage to the sinuses ... it can stay low key for months then flare up. One telltale sign is dark circles under the eyes. The sinusitis CAN be triggered by dairy, or gluten, or pollen, or a previous cold. Eating sugar probably makes things worse too. The sinusitis was thought to be bacterial, but now they are discovering a lot of is is fungal, which is one reason it is so hard to treat. One good thing ... the Mayo clinic has been doing research on this and they have a nose spray now that is quite effective at treating chronic sinusitis. It takes care of both bacteria and fungi. Our doc has a local pharmacy copy the recipe, they call it " Betablast " . There probably is an underlying problem that is causing so many kids to get this ... maybe just small sinuses from our current diet, or the way we heat our houses. But until we figure out the cause, it's good to treat it. My kids are completely different when they don't have sinus problems! -- Heidi Jean
Guest guest
Thank you for your help. Some of you asked what else I feed him. I don't let him have hardly any sugar. I do give him some grains. I started with the cereal before I knew all this other stuff. I don't do that anymore, but have tried other grains with him. I probably will quit giving him any. He doesn't go to daycare or anything like that, so he really isn't exposed to a lot of things. I'm still wondering if I should go from the formula to raw goat or cow's milk. I've heard it is good to nurse your baby until even 2 years old. So would it be a good thing to continue the NT formula for a little longer? > Hi! > > I am new to this group.
