Guest guest
I don't think the vco is irradiated. The one i know that is irradiated are the whole coconuts coming into the country.
Guest guest
Not only whole coconuts are irradiated. Now the FDA has ruled that ALMONDS be pasteurized/steamed/irradiated before being sold to food chains to avoid salmonella. This became a problem when big almond growers did not take extra care of their harvests. Now, small organic farmers suffer too because this would be additional expense. No more organic almonds except from private backyard owners who might want to sell. I go to huge supermarkets here and buy non-sterilized almonds which are leftovers prior to the Sept. 1 2007 effectivity date of the new FDA rule. Now, the FDA is about to implement/or is already implementing the same rule for fresh green vegetables and fruits coming in from other countries. I was in the grocery the other day looking for nice fresh green sweet peppers. I noticed that each one of them had wrinkles on one corner of the produce. I did not buy thinking it could have been irradiated. The best is buy from local farmers. Go to the farm markets in your area. Buy produce that are organic or sustainable (they now say sustainable is better because it is " old genuine organic " way of growing produce, but have no USDA certification of being organic; FDA altered organic growing rules to please big commercial farms). .
