Guest guest
>>>I am sure that I once read somewhere that sugar cravings are a sign of a vitamin/mineral deficiency only I can't remember which one. Can someone please enlighten me to what the deficiency is.<<< With sugar, it's more a matter of having some makes you crave more. It throws your blood-sugar and insulin out of whack. Your blood-sugar goes up after eating sugar and other high carb foods (especially highly processed 'white' foods - white flour products, white rice, potatoes without their skins, etc.) and you feel pretty good for a while. Then, lots of insulin is pumped out to correct the high blood-sugar. The blood-sugar drops rapidly and you feel like crap and want another 'hit' of sugar to feel good again. Removing the sugar and 'whites' from your diet, and replacing them with complex carbs (high fibre foods) and balancing them with plenty of protein and fats to slow the blood-sugar response, should stop the cravings. Some prefer to remove them gradually, but others go 'cold turkey' and go through a withdrawal period that normally lasts only a few days - commonly called the Atkins Flu. There are some supplements out there that are said to help balance the blood-sugar/insulin fluctuations, but I'd rather treat the cause than the symptoms. HTH, Tas'. Guest guest
Eating too much sugar/carb can deplete you of chromium, and taking it can help with cravings. l-glutamine is an amino acid that helps with cravings too. By all means treat the cause, as Tas says, but I don;t see any harm in using whatever tools you can, in the short term, to help you get there. EFT is also helpful, if you want to check that out www.emofree.com Cheers, deb --- In , " " <parnham@w...> wrote: > Hi, > > I am sure that I once read somewhere that sugar cravings are a sign > of a vitamin/mineral deficiency only I can't remember which one. > Can someone please enlighten me to what the deficiency is. > > Cheers, > > (who is about to grab another handful of Lollies - please stop > me
