Guest guest
Has anyone bought the expensive water filter from Radiant Life? What do you think of it? Also, does anyone have any opinions on reverse osmosis filters in general? TIA!
Guest guest
If you want to do just a kitchen sink RO unit, you'll probably be fine. I would caution against trying to do whole-house RO -- the issues with the " hunger " of purified / low pH water for chemicals from your standard pipes and fixtures gets ugly pretty quickly and you end up looking at things like post-filter pH adjustment and / or whole-house pex piping, stainless steel fixtures ($$$) on all sinks and tubs / showers. RO is, unhappily, about the only " easy " way to remove fluoride from tap water. It typically has high input / low yield in terms of gallons of clean water produced, although the tech is improving. Remember that RO filter membranes require maintenance, and if they ever fail, whatever they were holding back gets dumped all at once into your water supply. There have apparently been some very scary incidents at dialysis clinics. You could consider a counter top distiller unit -- they're not toooo spendy for the gallon-at-a-go size. Or consider moving somewhere with a private well, and just do a sediment / carbon filter and, if you're paranoid, a UV sanitizer. ....a lot of your decision depends on what you're trying to filter out...
