Guest guest
Elainie, Do you mean the multi-pure or your well water? First let me comment on the multipure: From everything I could find multipure is the gold standard of carbon based filters but it won't filter out fluoride (don't want that as I already have thyroid problems). Doulton filters (similar to multipure)will remove fluoride by using carbon plus an alumina filter. If you have a multipure you can add on a 2nd filter that will duplicate the Doulton. That's what I've done. HOWEVER there's potential problems with filtering through alumina. (reverse osmosis will also remove fluoride but it also has problems) " Here you have three options: bone char, alumina or a special fluoride ion exchange resin. Bone char only removes about 60% of the fluoride and so is not your best option. Alumina is the most commonly used, but has two drawbacks as I see it: (1) It uses a form of aluminum, a toxic metal (2) It needs to be either totally replaced about twice a year or back-flushed with a very caustic chemical, which makes for costly (and messy) maintenance that can only be done by someone licensed to handle the chemicals needed to do the cleaning. The last option, the fluoride ion exchange resin seems to be the best option. It works on the same principle as a water softener, uses salt and also a special polymer resin. The only maintenance involved is periodic addition of salt. You will find that most local water companies are using alumina or alumina gel. From: http://www.aquasafe.us/Help%20Pages/filtersystms.htm Two months ago For Radiant Life told me they were looking more closely at the Doulton Filter they sell. AAARRGGGG...how to get clean water that doesn't cause problems! I've started ordering Mt. Valley Spring Water in 5 gallon glass bottles. I have 5 bottles delivered a month for about $50. I'm now primarily using it and the filtered water as backup. I would die for a deep clean well. My parents have that but here in Ga deep wells can hit iron pockets. There well did during a bad drought and now has to be filtered..... from thier well! As to how clean your well water is....call your county extension agent and find out how to have it tested for pesticides. All this blasted work and money to avoid essentially drugged water with frickin added in fluoride. Oh well ....living in the modern world! Lynn > Lynn, > I use a multipure but have well water.
