Jenn,

Here is another one I am looking into - http://www.smartbraingames.com/

They have a NASA patent, home system is very affordable - around $600.00, and they use a Playstation or X-Box, and actual games...

Please do let me know too if you come accross something...

the Braingames thing looks like three sensors; therefore I'm assuming one is in the middle of the head, and you get feedback in response to an increase in beta waves ( " focusing " ). The others must be ground and reference. I think. This is sort of " Basic " neurofeedback, one size fits all. The braintrainer system (what this list is about) is more complex and individualized -- the idea is that not everybody needs to get their beta waves up and it could even be a not-good thing for some. Via the braintrainer system, you see what people need by doing a comprehensive assessment and looking at what their particular problems are.

On the other hand, hooking up three electrodes via saline and playing XBox games seems pretty nifty. I'm tempted...Liz

Pete,What is the learning curve on that HEG software if one has never used Bioexplorer (that's the software for both HEG and EEG on that system, right?) before? Also how would stepping up the activity in the front affect anxious people?

Thanks.Liz

If you haven't reviewed the material on the large HEG training study done with ASD children in Thailand (ages 3 and up) is pretty interesting. A search for HEG Autism and Thai will find it. HEG has a great benefit over EEG for many just starting out, in that it requires no measuring, no prepping or pasting, no assessments. Generally, for about $1400, you can get started and be working with the technology within half an hour of getting the package.

Because no pasting or prepping are required, the headband is more acceptable for many sensory-sensitive clients, and there is no clean up required. The benefit of using something like at HEG Pendant with the HEG headband (available at http://www.brain-trainer.com/cgi-bin/shop.pl?shop=get_item & item_id=30 ) and BioExplorer software is that, if you choose to add EEG later, you can do so for about $650. The software is the same.

Training sessions should not exceed 10 minutes in the beginning and slowly work up to 30 minutes. The training can be done every other day and eventually twice a week to continue making gains.Pete

Liz,Training screens for eyes open training often use a DVD player, which allows you to play/pause the DVD, or change brightness or size of the display based on client performance, or a video player, which allows you to do the same with a playlist of digital videos, or game screens. You can easily set up or remove or move around various display elements like the power spectrum, threshold, graphs, etc.

For eyes closed training, you can make the software produce music that tracks brain activity and becomes the feedback.Pete

another question: before " Play " , are there many choices for screens? (to vary the stimuli) -- thanks
