I'm not as well-read as many folks on this list, but I do have my

personal experience--I was a vegetarian for 3 years, vegan for 5,

from ages 20-28. At age 23-25 I developed a series of health

concerns including asthma, very low immunity, chipping of my teeth,

thinning of my hair, highly irregular menses. By 26 I had joint and

tendon pain, forearm tendonitis so bad I had to change careers,

thinning hair, along with the continuation of all my previously

listed symptoms. As things worsened I began consuming *more* soy in

an effort to get more protein, as everyone assured me I wasn't

getting enough protein. All along I had been physically active,

although my increased body pains were making this more and more

difficult.

My symptoms worsened, until my ND suggested I eat meat. Within 30

days, 90% of my symptoms " magically " dissappeared. Within 9 months

of consuming shark/fish oils my tendonitis *dissappeared*! (The

tendonitis had been painful enough that I had to stop gardening,

could not cook my own meals from scratch as the prep time caused

more pain, had to sleep with braces on every night...)

I haven't taken a formal survey or anything, but I know 2 other

women in our community who had the same exact experiences--one is

the local chapter head of the WPF, and another is a parent from my

daughter's school.

I am sure if you were to talk to other folks on this list who

attempted vegetarianism/veganism you might find similar stories.
