I suspect it was the abrupt temp change. It went from 70 degrees average to 90 and sunny, suddenly. And they were in direct sun most of the time, which might not be good for them. I know lettuce really likes cool weather better, so maybe I'll put them on the north side of the house! The other problem is that I didn't put them on good enough mulch ... next time if I do cabbage I'm using landscape cloth so the set on something dry. I cut out the bad parts and chopped them up, made them into kraut. Also cole slaw ... they were REALLY tender and crispy, quite nice!
