Guest guest
I'm holding out for the 10th edition. Carla says it should be ready in a few years. I'm quite anxious because she's using Liddy's birth story in one of the sections (my Biddy Bug is going to be famous LOL). That reminds me I should email her, I haven't talked to her in a looooong time, I haven't even told her about our plans for our farm. That's so cool you have a farm Katja, you got my dream before I did LOL. By the way how DO you prounounce your name? I was thinking " Cat-ja " LOL. (who's poor wee babe has a terrible wet-sounding cough if anyone has any advice, her brother didn't even catch a cold till he was over 2 years old so I have no experiance with a sick baby and sure don't want to get started on the antibiotic thing ::rolls eyes: wrote: Message: 3 Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 09:44:13 -0400 From: katja Subject: Re: what i've learned about farming/buying land/homesteading/etc. oh yes - i've been meaning to pick up the country encyclopedia - it's been highly recommended. do you still code, heidi? do you work from farm? Guest guest
stay away from the antibiotics!! sometimes it's hard to feel confident and sometimes you will want to give in and see a " regular doctor " and just take his advice and put yourself on autopilot and not have to think, but think you must. remind me again how old she is? she's quite young, right? i'd brew marshmallow tea, or pleurisy root tea for her, and you can just let her slurp it from a spoon or give it to her in a dropper. calendula flower tea would also be quite good - truly, i'm becomming more and more fond of calendula by the day lately, and of course echinacea. there's no problem with mixing any or all of these in equal parts to make a nice blend, and they should all be fairly pleasant tasting. use the actual herbs if you can buy them, instead of packaged teas. if you can find them, there's a pretty decent product called " kids herbs " , which are tinctures made in glycerin. i find them a bit sweet but generally kids will take them. get the echinacea and the horehound and the cherrybark. while you're at it, you should drink the herbal teas as well - both for the benefit to your system as well as for passing it through the breast milk. of course also, the number one thing is to let her rest. don't take her out, don't let her get chilled, don't expose her to people - nothing that will tax her immune system. try to keep the mood in the house gentle as well. remember that when you're using herbs to heal, it might take a little bit longer - pharmaceuticals make their way with the " quick fix " . however, by letting her body fight it out now, you're building her a good strong immune system for the future. give her plenty of time to heal! -katja (the closest accurate pronunciation for an american, i think, would be if you rhyme it with " gotcha " ) At 03:05 PM 6/30/2004, you wrote: >I'm holding out for the 10th edition. Guest guest
Oh I'm staying away from the antibiotics you'd better believe it! In my mind those are absolutly life and death last resort! I'll try to find a way out tommorow to get some of said remedies. She is 3 months old. And her favorite passtime is scarring the tar outta mamma! She's not coughing continuously through the day like a normal cold, she'll get these bouts where she'll cough and couch and cough (horrible wet in the chest type coughs) then suck in a huge gulp of air and cough and cough and cough again. as the bout ends she'll cry and cry like she's in pain. Once that's over she's fine for hours until the next bout. She has no fever but does have a runny nose (and oddly enough lots of gas, maybe from swallowing so much air) she'll have really mucusy saliva too, so she has me a bit on edge, sounds almost like pertussis, of course that could be motherhood-induced paranioa too or doctor-induced since we did not have her vaccinated. Poor thing is teething too and with the heat....ug! When it rains it pours! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: katja stay away from the antibiotics!! sometimes it's hard to feel confident and sometimes you will want to give in and see a " regular doctor " and just take his advice and put yourself on autopilot and not have to think, but think you must. remind me again how old she is? she's quite young, right? i'd brew marshmallow tea, or pleurisy root tea for her, and you can just let her slurp it from a spoon or give it to her in a dropper. calendula flower tea would also be quite good - truly, i'm becomming more and more fond of calendula by the day lately, and of course echinacea. there's no problem with mixing any or all of these in equal parts to make a nice blend, and they should all be fairly pleasant tasting. use the actual herbs if you can buy them, instead of packaged teas. if you can find them, there's a pretty decent product called " kids herbs " , which are tinctures made in glycerin. i find them a bit sweet but generally kids will take them. get the echinacea and the horehound and the cherrybark. while you're at it, you should drink the herbal teas as well - both for the benefit to your system as well as for passing it through the breast milk. of course also, the number one thing is to let her rest. don't take her out, don't let her get chilled, don't expose her to people - nothing that will tax her immune system. try to keep the mood in the house gentle as well. remember that when you're using herbs to heal, it might take a little bit longer - pharmaceuticals make their way with the " quick fix " . however, by letting her body fight it out now, you're building her a good strong immune system for the future. give her plenty of time to heal! -katja (the closest accurate pronunciation for an american, i think, would be if you rhyme it with " gotcha " ) Mrs. Siemens Helpmeet to , mommy to Zachary & Lydia " For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation....
