Doesn't seem to have a negative effect on them. charlene -- Peppermint Oil? does anyone know if rubbing peppermint oil on tummy (when you're pregnant) is ok? Guest guest Posted August 1, 2004 Report Share Posted August 1, 2004 Sorry, no, it isn't OK. All topical use of essential oils should be avoided for the first 16 weeks. After that a max of one aromatherapy massage per week and all herbal oils should be avoided. Peppermint is a herbal oil. Other oils to be avoided while pregnant are basil, citronella, clary sage, cypress, fennel, ginger, lemongrass, marjoram, oregano, palmarosa, rose, rosemary, sage & thyme. You can still use floral oils like lavendar, citrus oils like orange and woody oils like rosewood.
