If you are using a 2E, I'm guessing that battery has been in there for a long time. I don't think you " ruined " it by leaving it unplugged for a couple weeks. Any battery eventually fails to hold a charge if you use it long enough.

BrainMaster used to make (still does, I think) a battery rescue kit for between $50 and $100. One version (the more expensive one) has a " meter " on it to show you the charge level. Buy the cheaper one. It plugs between the serial port on the back of the 2E and the serial cable, and you use any 9-volt battery outside the BMer to run it. Works fine, much more convenient and it works around the internal battery completely.

During a house remodel, I accidentally left my Brainmaster 2E unplugged for about 2 weeks. After plugging it up again, the charge light will not come on--even after 3 days charging. Have I ruined the battery?

The same thing just happened to me a couple weeks ago after accidently

leaving it on overnight. It's possible that the battery is fried --

the internal BM batteries don't appear to be very robust. Mine charged

back after a few days to where the light comes on very strong again,

but the software still can't connect to the brainmaster.

Pete directed me to the brainmaster site, where they have a battery

" rescue kit " :

That looks like the lowest cost solution.

Thanks for the tips Pete and JW. However, my unit is SN 1183, not

1600 or above like required from the link. Perhaps I need to contact

Brainmaster. (Sure wished I could have bought one of those rescue kits!)

The battery pack in the brainmasters can be changed by opening the box. There is a pack of 8 AA batteries. I found the 1st 4 were dead the 2nd 4 were still partially charged. Found this flat pack to be similar to the radio controlled cars.

The Bmr has a 700 mAh 9.6 V. rechargeable NiCad battery.

There several different types of these battery packs. By replacing it with a pack with same specs you can use the same battery charger, same plug-in to recharge. I added 2 points on out side of box, with a protector cap, now I can check for the battery condition with a meter. I use this unit intermittingly, leave it unplugged for ?? weeks, still holds a charge.

The battery packs are about #14.99. I was near a FRYS electronics store (and it is on web) where I found part # 3345112 for a R96K a 700mAh 9.6V. With the same specs as the original batteries.

Included is a charger, that you do not need it is part of pack, use the original charger.

Check on web for batteries, this type battery is not recommended to be plugged in 24/7

They will over charge and eventually not hold a charge. When replacing make sure to note the polarity. Cut wires from original pack, remove the connector from new batteries. These can be either soldered and taped or use a wire cap to reconnect.

Dear Pete,

had gifted me a Brainmaster 2E. It worked fine for a year and

then battery went dead. As I stay in India, original battery pack is

not available.

I opened the case, removed the original pack of AA batteries and

replaced with same looking but loose AA battery units.

The Box is not protected in any way. I didn't find any calibration

pots etc. It contains usual instru. op amps and a microcontroller

etc.

I fitted everything back and it is working excelently since.

But I won't recommend it to someone unless he has some practice with

soldering and checking battery polarity etc. (otherwise the

procedure is very simple.)

Devidas
