Rob,

OK, I've recorded a file (2:30) on a Focus and will upload it (with a description) to the Files section of braintrainer list. Members can get it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/braintrainer/files ). It's called Sample. BTW, for non-members, the list is free to join.

I did 30 seconds with no prep to show strong 60 Hz activity. Then prepped and did another 40 seconds trying to figure out why I still had so much 60 Hz. Then reprepped and got almost no 60 Hz, so I spent some time batting my eyelashes to make the big slow-wave excursions and some time clenching various muscle groups to show EMG excursions.

Pete

Thanks for the reply Pete,Unfortunately I am still waiting for my eeg device so I can't reallytry anything that you suggested. I just wanted to be able to see whatit looks like on Bioexplorer.

Thanks for taking the time to do this example, Pete! Very helpful to

see the various ways poor preping, AC interference, muscle tension

and eyeblinks show up on the oscilloscope.

When gathering data for an anxious person who typically holds

tension in their bodies, should we get the person to do a deep

relaxation technique for a couple of minutes before recording the

data to reduce EMG interference?

Mike,

I don't usually go that far, since you can either move the person away from their real anxiety level--or cause them to rebound. I ask them to relax (whatever relaxing is for them). I recognize that there may be some muscle tension in the EEG tracing, but, since I'm not doing research with these files, and since I don't have to find the ONE " perfect " protocol (I usually test 4-6), what's the worst thing that can happen? I could spend a session training down muscle activity instead of EEG. Not altogether bad.

Pete
