Open-Pollinated corn?

I'm not sure just HOW silly of a question this is, but ... this seems like

a rather redundant phrase to me. Isn't all corn basically

open-pollinated (i.e. wind)? Unless, I suppose, you work for Monsanto

or something. I mean, sometimes I cheat and go purposely shake my corn

stalks and try to aim where the pollen falls, but, ya know, it's still

" open " .

MFJ

If I have to be a grownup, can I at least be telekinetic too?

Open pollinated and heirloom seeds are one in the same. You can save the

seed from this year's plants to grow plants next year. Open to cross

pollination better descriptive.

Is extra confusing term when it comes to corn. All corn is wind pollinated

(vs. usual bee pollination) and needs widest separation between varieties to

avoid crossing varieties. Open pollinated corn needs about 400 ft. of

distance from any other corn to keep seed pure. Because corn is so easily

crossed by wind and close proximity it seems the ideal to hybridizing then

enseeding. Have hand pollinated the few years I grew corn taking pollen

in my fingers from one ear to others. Likely how larger ear production was

made from original corn that was no bigger than a grass with a seedhead.

Ah, okay, thanks! (Sorry I'm a little late here, busy few days.)
