Birthday cake ideas for one year old

Hi,

I thought I would ask if anyone has some good ideas for a birthday

cake for my baby daughter who is turning one in October. I was

thinking about trying to make her an ice cream cake because most other

types of cakes have flour in them, and she hasn't had grains yet (I

don't plan on giving her those for another few months at least). Any

ideas? I REALLY want her to be able to have a piece of her very first

birthday cake.

Ciao,

Dawn

Skip the cake. It is YOU who wants her to have cake. She doesn't give a flip

at that age, and won't until she three. Give her cake and she'll probably

get constipated.

i agree. for my daughter's birthdays, we get a very pretty ball of raw milk

gouda cheese in the red wax, and put a candle in that! she loves it!

She'd probably love an ice cream cake! Esp. if it is topped by nice

messy whipped cream! My " quick brownie " recipe has very little

flour in it, and can be made with almond flour, for the bottom

layer. Or just mix some almond flour with sugar and butter for

the bottom layer (like a graham cracker crust, only tastier).

The brownie cake is really good too though, esp.

with coconut frosting. If you don't have the recipe I'll

repost it. It is everyone's favorite around here,

and really, really simple, and with almond flour it

is grainless.

I also agree with Elaine and Katja. But, if you feel you have to have

something (and don't want the cheese like Katja), in NT there are

recipes for cheesecake with an almond crust, merengue, walnut torte

with wipped cream icing, flourless carob cake and flourless almond

cake.

Cheers,

Tas'.

You have another option: introduce gluten-free grains. You could

make a cake from scratch or buy a mix (I highly recommend GF Pantry

White or Chocolate mixes!) With Celiac Disease in our family I kept

all my kiddos GF until age two, so that first birthday cake was

always gf.

Most kids don't eat much at one year . . . she'll probably be fine

no matter what you decide. The cake is mostly for the family and

other visitors for the big day.
