Guest guest
I just ordered 20 pounds of organic pickling cucumbers and plan to pickle as many as i can in my harsch crock and the rest in jars. I don't like them too salty. Can't stand the taste of Bubbies. Just thought i'd check in to see if anyone has a good recipe for pickling a large batch that won't be too salty, if such a thing is possible. And i won't need to store these in the fridge, right? I'm hoping to keep them in the shed or on the porch during fall and winter (no room indoors). Tia, Elaine

I used kimchi juice as a starter too, and a gurgle of vinegar. My family's take was that they were too " mild " but I'd imagine they will sour up in the fridge. I DO keep mine in the fridge, but historically they were kept in a barrel on the porch. I have had them get mushy though, in the past, but that was at room temp. As for spices, I used a few cloves of garlic, heads of dill, whole peppercorns, allspice. Heidi Jean
