Hi Naomi,

Probably not, but I've seen a lot of hardcore leftists, even the head of the

New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, on Fox News, and treated with

respect to. Well, not by Hannity (he doesn't like treating people who

disagree

with him very well!) , but O'Reilly treated him with a lot of respect. Fox

is pretty conservative-dominated, but they do share their fair share of

out-of--the-box views compared to other channels. I don't know if they still

do, but

for a long time they had a guy from FAIR on their media criticism show (I

forget the name), despite that FAIR is one of Fox's worst enemies.

I don't find it very difficult. My main methods are to 1) go on the net and

2) go to a bookstore. In either of those places, it's very easy to get all

kinds of viewpoints. It's pretty difficult if you confine yourself to cable

news, but anyone who cares to look for an alternative viewpoint can find it

quite

easily.

That's just immature. If you have an intelligent rebuttal to make (here the

gentleman in me refrains, which much effort, from speculating on the

likelihood of that), I, for one, would love to hear it. " LOL, " no matter how

you choose to punctuate it, isn't a valid response to any serious argument,

especially when it contains no glaring flaws.

I've never actually watched Fox News, so I wouldn't know if was just

making stuff up, but it seems unlikely that you would refrain from pointing

that out if he were.

The notion that any of the news channels (network or cable) presents

anything resembling a fair representation of the news, let alone progressive

points of view, is simply laughable.

I didn't say they did nor say anything close to it. I said that Fox News

airs alternative viewpoints often. That includes, occasionally, viewpoints

similar in extremity and nature to Chomsky's.

In the other section of my email, where I commented on the accessibility of

alternative viewpoints, I didn't mention cable news or television, but listed

the internet and bookstores.

Hmmm - I'd say that your contention that this is not " anything close to it "

is flagrantly false. What do you mean by " often " ? How are they presented? I

went back and read the original post, and yes - I'd say that the implication

was that Fox news gave a fair representation of progressive viewpoints - at

least in most commonly accepted usages of 'fair'.

I'm not sure why you're saying this, as I didn't comment on this section.

However, I think that the point that you were responding to wasn't really

that someone educåted as to what exactly some of these alternative

viewpoints might be, and how to find them, would have difficulty locating

them. I find them rather easily at this point also. That's really

irrelevant. The point is that for the great majority of Americans, who get

their news from corporate sources like network news and newspapers, these

alternative viewpoints don't even exist, or are simply regarded as crazy.
