Hi Jan,

Hashimoto's, I'm on 100 mcg Synthroid and 5 mcg cytomel. I've been prescribed NSAIDS for pain that ended up being thyroid-related.

Hi, I'm in Houston. It's been awhile since I posted, but here

I am. In Aug of '02 I was diagnosed with a goiter and told the left

lobe was 3x normal size. I was told it was not nodular and all I

would have to take was a " little pill " everyday -.50mcg Synthroid.

My TSH was 1.87 prior to starting meds and the T3 & T4 were in normal

range also. After starting the Synthroid I felt pretty good with a

TSH of .57

I got pregnant in Oct '02 and my TSH started going in the below

normal range so by Synthroid was lowered to .25mcg. My pregnancy was

riddled with unexplainable problems (which I did not have with my 1st

4 years prior) and the baby was delivered in April '03 at 28 weeks

due to extreme IUGR. To this day the Dr's still don't know why that

happened.

I stayed on .25mcg for a year after I delivered, mainly because I did

not have time to think about myself. I just requested that my Dr.

try upping the Synthroid dosage back to .50mcg even though by TSH is

1.4 to see if symptoms go away - weight gain, hair loss, carpal

tunnel, swelling, mood swings, and occassional migranes.

In Feb, my Dr. prescribed an antidepressant called Lexapro because of

the mood swings I was having. I don't know if I really needed the

Lexapro or if my problems where my thyroid. We have gone through a

heck of a year with the baby so maybe I was depressed, but she has

been doing great so I suspect my thyroid is more the culprit.

I have not had a full physical in forever, but my cholesterol was

tested when I donated blood for the baby last year and it was 230. I

would probably be put on statin drugs if my Dr. knew about it. I'm

34 years old and feel like I am too young to be having all these

problems!

I am on 100 mcg.of Synthroid daily since December 2003. Prior to that I had been on 50 mcg. since November 2001. I had an abnormal TSH prior to going on Synthroid, and now it is around 1.79. My T4 level is in normal ranges both before going on Synythroid and after. I was not ever prescribed any of the medications you mentioned.

Where to begin? Hypothyroid, hereditary I think, but compounded by pesticide exposure in my work grooming pets. I have been prescribed water pills, blood pressure meds, tranquilizers, diet pills, Estrogen, been sent to a counselor, taken Librium, Elavil, Valium, Ambien, Phentermine, was diagnosed as having vericose veins (which I do NOT have), prescribed compression pantyhose! Heart murmur, Asthma.. all this is magically CURED by increased thyroid meds. I have low/normal blood pressure now after being in stroke ranges, no more swelling legs, no more mood swings or depression, SLOWLY losing weight, and am VERY content with my life now that I have taken my health & meds into my own hands. I only wish I hadn't waited so long or waded through so many bad doctors to do it. The damage to my body from all the years under medicated is horrible. I do not know if my thinking will ever completely clear. But I do know I am on the right track as I feel better than I have in 20 years of relying on the medical profession to fix it.

I started out pretty lucky at the age of 10, which was 40 years ago.

I was diagnosed as hypothyroid, but have no idea what my bloodtest

numbers were back then. I think doctors were better and definitely

used symptoms alone back then. I was on 2 grains of thyrolar until

about 3 years ago. I started having problems about 5 years ago - I

think perhaps it was due to menopause.

During the recent couple of years I was put on lipitor. Suddenly I

started developing deep, dark bruises for no apparent reason so I

dropped it pretty quick. When my Armour dosage was increased later,

the cholesterol dropped into normal range. One doctor kept trying to

tell me I was " anxious " even though I kept correcting him. I am only

on Actonel for Osteopenia and 3 grains (180 mg) Armour right now. My

TSH is suppressed to zero, which causes me much grief in getting the

right thyroid dosage. My FT3 is normal and my FT4 is very slightly

above normal.

Hi Jan,

Diagnosis:Graves Disease..4 1/2 yrs.post RAI

Current Treatment: 100mcg Unithroid/7.5 mcg Cytomel.This along with

certain vitamins/minerals as well as learning stress reduction

techniques is my current protocol.

I have, on occasion, had certain doctors write rx's for Zoloft which

I have refused to take to this point.I was also rx'd Ambien in my

most hyper days but it reversed on me as many meds do.

Hi Lila

What kind of thyroid med are you on and how much? Does this also happen after you are in bed, trying to relax? Hyperthyroidism can have this effect, but that doesn't mean that that's what this is, of course.

I need some help, please. I am having a new set of problems and am not sure if it is related to thyroid. GP wants me to take antidepressants for stress, but I'm not sure if this is what is causing my symptoms (could be). Symptoms are: legs and arm muscles or nerves, not sure which one, are twitching and feeling "electrified", with constant tingling and jerking. Sort of a mild twitching and jerking, though. I have a neuro and rheumatoid appt in late August (couldn't get in any sooner). Could be firbro? Could it be thyroid. Any help or referral you can suggest sure would be appreciated. Hi Jan!

I see that you didn't forget the Vicodin, hehe! My diagnosis is Hashimoto's

Disease-Thyroiditis. I am taking Armour Thyroid for the past 9 months or

so, but was previously taking $ynthroid, then Levoxyl, for the last 10 yrs

before the fall of 2003. I am taking vitamins and minerals in a general

formula by Natrol, plus a separate liquid B12, folic acid, omega 3 gel caps,

ginkgo biloba (helps brain fog), and a calcium magnesium supp. Oh, and

bovine adrenal support and selenium with c, and an extra c by itself

throughout the day. I'm listing all these because they truly are for my

thyroid disease, with my individual problems. I've also had everything on

the list prescribed for me, except for the diet pills and amphetamines.

Diagnosed with Hashi's in 2002. Currently on 1.12 of Unithroid plus .05 of Cytomel. Doing ok at present. Have never been improperly prescribed with the drugs you list or anything else.

Currently on:

90 mg Armour - but my meds and dosage has yo-yo'd for the last 5 years - it has not stayed the same for more than 3 months at any time. Sound familiar. It's up, It's down. Some synthroid added, some taken away, now all extra T4 stopped. Endo reduced to 60 mgs Armour, but I haven't done it yet..........I have a suppressed TSH and it has been for 2+ years - Endo won't explore why - I do have a pituitary tumor and at the same time it started suppressed I also had - abnormal subalpha unit reading from the pituitary tumor - which usually inidicates some is going on there - he would never order more tests or explore what was going on - the TSH was never normal since regardless of what medication changes occured - I say there could be a connection - my PCP says there could be - he refuses to run the tests to see.

Also take: 200 mg Topamax for migraine control and 7.5 mg (lowest dose possible - my choice) Restroil to try to get some sleep - it's not working anymore - boo hooooooo

Also been Rx'd Prozac at EVERY visit last 2 years for the following but have never taken it: Severe PMS - I never complained and not experience it in my opinion, next visit it was depression - again his opinion, then it was CFS, and anexity disorders again all in the opinion of the BIG SHOT endo - never by my symptoms or opinion - but by my continuing of questions him about my abnormal labs on my pituitary tests and FNA and thyroid labs which he would not address. As the old timers here know - he's history and I see the new endo in August and my PCP has been really good about trying to figure this all out with me, but has admitting some of the test results are outside of his expertise, hence his wanting an Endo's opinion.

Hypothyroid. Currently on Synthroid .75.

I was lucky enough to be diagnosed almost immediately (mostly because I was

in a bit of denial that anything was wrong). My doctor has been adamant

that we NOT treat symptoms, because she doesn't want to mask the true

effects of my dosage. The only exception is that she gave me a prescription

laxative (Miralax - great stuff), because I couldn't go to the bathroom.

Forgot my diagnosis:

Hashimoto's - I do have nodules - one on the left which is growing, several on the right (new scan last week so I don't know the details on them yet)

Pittuitary tumor - which has been classified at various times as: a Prolactinoma, a non-functioning tumor, a mixed tumor. So who the heck knows what kind it really is. Hopefully the new Endo will properly classifiy it and determine the proper course of treatment.

I also have chronic insomnia - I only sleep 3 to 4 hours a night with sleeping pills - without I sleep maybe 1 hour. I need an answer to this problem

My PCP suspects I also have secondary adrenal insufficieny due to the pituitary tumor - hoping the new Endo will do the stim test for it - last one refused to.

That's about it for now. Oh last endo said I had CFS- PCP & I don't agree for now as other conditions have not yet been ruled out. If and when they have then we will accept that.

Forgot my diagnosis:

Synthroid and Cytomel.
