BANGKOK (AFP) - Drinking urine can eliminate sinus trouble, turn grey hair black

and even cure cancer, a Thai academic said, citing a study of local

Buddhists who engage in the unorthodox practice.

Ratree Cheepudomwit, of the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine

Development Department, said hundreds of urine drinkers attested that

consuming a daily cup worked wonders for their overall health and helped

slow the ageing process.

She said that in June she queried 250 members of Santi Asoke, a strict

indigenous

Buddhist movement believed to have thousands of followers, and 204

respondents said they had learned from ancient Buddhist manucripts that

drinking one's urine improved health.

" Of the respondents, 87 percent confirmed that it had head-to-toe benefits for

them,

including for example reduction of dandruff, grey hair, sinus problems

and cancer, " Ratree told AFP.

The medical elixir was not easy on everyone's system, as about one in 10 urine

drinkers suffered diarrhea afterwards, but the practice should not be

viewed with disgust, she said.

" Other groups of people who drank urine were Buddhist monks who practised in

accordance to scriptures which are more than 2,500 years old, " she said.

Okay give me a moment...............please.......................YOU HAVE GOT TO

BE KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay there I am better now. As a nurse I can not

think of one positive health benefit from drinking urine, plus not to mention

all of the diseases that can be housed in the urine itself. Urine is nothing

Micheal how can you possible advocate people not to vote. I think that is

shameful. People have died to give you that freedom. Maybe this is a group I

should not have joined. I hope that you do not speak for the majority on this

group.

some people involved with traditional chinese medicine do drink urine.

either as part of a long fast (no food or water), or as a general health

measure, i have heard of older people drinking the urine of children.

the type of fast isn't something well known in the west - the main

difference is,

the people who are sufficiently trained do not suffer health problems

from the fast.

Urine is actually sterile in a healthy person.

The components of sweat are exactlly the same as urine except for the

nitrogenous compounds.

The skin acts like a third kidney removing approximately 1/3 of the waste from

the blood.

Urine is a waste product filtered by the kidneys. It seems best to leave those

toxins alone and avoid redigesting them. Why would anyone retake the already

processed waste? Go figure. Through the years there are many practices that

have been passed down that are best left in the past and this seems to be one.

My mom used to say folks will follow anything without thinking things through,

it seems she was right on. Instead of drinking already dumper toxins how about

some organic, non filtered, unsweetened, cleansing apple juice?

And there's the medical establishment for you. The same people that told me

eating raw meat would kill me. The fact of the matter is, people have

practiced urine therapy for a long, long time. I never have, as I don't

consider myself " clean " . But I hardly see it as an odd practice.

I think the theory is that it's essentially homeopathic. You're

exposing yourself again to the already dead pathogens that your

system has just gotten rid of, thus boosting the immune system. Sort

of like a vaccine.

Nevertheless, I think there are much better and more pleasant ways of

boosting your immune system! I think I'll stick to homeopathic

medicine and vitamins or something rather than go for the yellow

stuff!

Hi Brittany,

Before you imply someone is stupid, you might want to look a bit

deeper into the subject you are critiquing. My ND, who is an honorary

board member of the Price Foundation, has used urine therapy as a

mainstay in treating himself for Lyme disease. He believes it's

helped him greatly in this regard.

I also met a suigeon at the WAPF conference last year, and he too has

used urine therapy with great benefit. It's not a widely-known

practice, but there seem to be many folks using it succesfully.

Amazon, btw, has several books on this subject.

If you care about accurate information, then this group is definitely

the place for you. But you will find that you might need to UNlearn

much of what you've been taught by the conventional medical paradigm.

It's not an easy process, but if you keep an open mind, and assert

some analytical rigor, you'll understand why. Keep reading the posts,

and shoot us any questions you might have. What may seem totally

bizarre to you at first, when examined closely, just may turn out to

have merit.

Ermm.... slowly raising hand. Well I *have* tried this. The main

book on the subject is one called " Your own perfect medicine " though

it is hugely coy and takes 150 pages to say " Americans! - Why Not

Drink Your Own Piss? " . I do find it calming in times of stress, but

never knocked back loads of the stuff over a long period, so it is

hard to judge the " miracle cure " claims. I find it infinitely less

revolting than eating raw liver - so I'm sure you'd all be able to

knock it back without gagging.

Cheers,

Kate

Well apparently there are several, though I for one have never tried it. I

posted the article as an FYI piece. As for being a nurse, that certainly is no

gold standard when it comes to legitimate nutritional information or other

various health protocols. In fact it might be a downright hindrance :-)

Hi Brittany,

Since this group is organized around the principles of Weston Price, my

political beliefs or lack thereof really has nothing to do with the value of

this group. There are an extremely diverse number of viewpoints on this list in

all areas, but we are bound by our common interests in native nutrition, not

politics, or religion or any other topic.

The article about voting is in my signature line, not the body of the message.

Politics and religion and just about every other subject under the sun comes up

on this list from time to time, usually as the result of a related nutrition

thread, but for most of us it is not a make or break issue as regards to our

participation on this board. It can be a lesson however in critical thinking,

lol!

Well it seems to be more than just sterile. Here is something I found:

In 1975, one of the founders of Miles Laboratories, Dr. A.H. Free, published his

book Urinalysis in Clinical Laboratory Practice, in which he remarked

that not only is urine a sterile body compound (purer than distilled

water), but that " it is now recognized that urine contains thousands of

compounds, and as new, more sensitive analytical tools evolve, it is

quite certain that new constituents of urine will be recognized. " Among

the urine constituents mentioned in Dr. Free's revealing treatise is a

list of nutrients that will knock your socks off. As Dr. Free comments,

the ingredients listed below are only a few critical nutrients found in

urine:

Alanine, total ..... 38 mg/day

Arginine, total ..... 32 mg/day

Ascorbic acid ..... 30 mg/day

Allantoin ..... 12 mg/day

Amino acids, total ..... 2.1 g/day

Bicarbonate ..... 140 mg/day

Biotin ..... 35 mg/day

Calcium ..... 23 mg/day

Creatinine ..... 1.4 mg/day

Cystine ..... 120 mg/day

Dopamine ..... 0.40 mg/day

Epinephrine ..... 0.01 mg/day

Folic acid ..... 4 mg/day

Glucose ..... 100 mg/day

Glutamic acid ..... 308 mg/day

Glycine ..... 455 mg/day

Inositol ..... 14 mg/day

Iodine ..... 0.25 mg/day

Iron ..... 0.5 mg/day

Lysine, total ..... 56 mg/day

Magnesium ..... 100 mg/day

Manganese ..... 0.5 mg/day

Methionine, total ..... 10 mg/day

Nitrogen, total ..... 15 g/day

Ornithine ..... 10 mg/day

Pantothenic acid ..... 3 mg/day

Phenylalanine ..... 21 mg/day

Phosphorus, organic ..... 9 mg/day

Potassium ..... 2.5 mg/day

Proteins, total ..... 5 mg/day

Riboflavin ..... 0.9 mg/day

Tryptophan, total ..... 28 mg/day

Tyrosine, total ..... 50 mg/day

Urea ..... 24.5 mg/day

Vitamin B6 ..... 100 mg/day

Vitamin B12 ..... 0.03 mg/day

Zinc ..... 1.4 mg/day

As you read over this extraordinary list of nutritional elements, you can begin

to understand why the stories you may have heard of people surviving on

their own urine are true. But what about other elements in urine that

you've heard about?
