Guest guest
The notion that voting is immoral is absolute crap. One can agree with much of what you are saying below, and still reach the conclusion, for instance, that in this present election that more people in the world will be less worse off with Kerry rather than Bush. I consider both of them to be reprehensible. Yet I will probably make the reasoned choice to vote for Kerry. I respect your choice not to vote. However the notion that I am being immoral is ridiculous. > I will throw my two cents in here too. I myself used to vote, but > now I choose not to. The part I can't relate to in the " I don't vote " crowd is basically most of the folks I know in that crowd are basically sticking their heads in the sand. Let the big boys do what they want, they just won't get involved. Meanwhile other groups ARE organising at a grass roots level and are getting what they want. A good example of this is a neighborhood I used to house sit in. Rich folks. The city wanted to put a freeway through their neighborhood. They organized and called and pestered and had town meetings, and the city moved the freeway and put sound barriers around it. Meanwhile, in another neighborhood, the folks just ignored the whole issue and got this noisy nasty freeway. Another good example was the Civil Rights movement. Lots of folks marching etc.... you may not agree with the movement (few people did, esp. at first) but it DID change America at a time when most of the power was in the hands of white males who had no intention of changing. Fact is, while I don't necessarily like the way we do politics, the politicians DO change what they do based on the fact people vote for them (or don't). And they take polls. So yeah, don't vote, don't get involved, then blame " the system " when you don't get what you want. If you don't care about the mercury and dioxin and PCB content of your food, or the issues with farm management and raw dairy, and think corporations should do whatever they please, then tend to your life and hope for the best. > Heidi Jean
